NAT is hardware accelerated and ... well read the link. I never bothered because mostly all I cared about were static ips for my lan and for some reason ddns that i never used.

 

That page isn't accessible in the OEM ASUS firmware. The screenshot is from Merlin's firmware.

That R7000 should be very good. If you want to play around with alternative firmware, you can do your research here:

A glance at a few R7000 threads indicated lots of positive reviews for Tomato-Shibby.

 

Convinced a coworker of mine to show his wife the cx-9 while car shopping.

He says a similar Honda & Toyota vehicle didn't compare. She was not amused after seeing the mazda.

I don't want to take a look at them because I'll end up buying one. A CPO Ecoboost Flex is half the price and will be fine...as long as I DO NOT go take a look at the CX9.

 

My father-in-law had it narrowed down to a Honda CR-V or a RAV4 before talking to me.

He is now the proud new owner of a CX-5.

Outback has a CVT, that's a deal breaker in my book.

We looked at a CX-9 last week as a possible replacement for our 95K mile Odyssey. The salesman seemed to be surprised that I knew what the phrase "Jinba Ittai" meant.

If you're using more than one baby seat you really want a minivan.

It's nicer than a Pilot and also cheaper by a few grand. It's a LOT cheaper than the MDX.

Also note that it starts in the low 30s, it's the "Signature" model that's $44K. Around here they can't keep them on the lots...

Might I ask why? I'm genuinely curious.

 

I'm assuming that, ignoring a general lack of enjoyment that one experiences when accelerating through the gears in a continuously variable gearbox, he is biased against CVTs because of their historically abysmal reliability record.

I'll start seriously considering a CVT in new/used vehicle purchases when they start showing up in full size trucks. When the Silverado, F-150, Sierra, Tundra, Ram, or Titan start rolling off of the factory with CVTs installed, then I'll recognize that the technology is probably ready for prime-time.

Unfortunately for CVT enthusiasts, Ford's line-up includes a 10-speed automatic transmission this year, which suggests to me that they think CVT may never be ready for a reliability showdown.

 

I hate the feeling of the engine speed being disconnected from the wheel speed. Modern lock-up torque converters have mostly meant that automatics are a lot better than they used to be, but now everyone's rolling out CVTs instead.

I also find that CVTs are almost always tuned for efficiency to the point of being really sucky to drive. I know it's more efficient, but I hate driving down the road with the engine lugging because they're running a tiny 4-cylinder at 1800 RPM doing 60 mph.

In general, CVTs have uniformly sucked to drive in my experience.

I'm still trying to decide if I will ever put that sticker on my car. In general I think stickers are tacky and a "young kids" thing. On the other hand, it's a great sticker. (IMO)

 

Agreed, but isn't that the whole point?

I mean, if you're not gonna try to squeeze 30mpg out of a big ol wagon, might as well pick up an SUV or crossover with a big ol v8 or a really torque v6 and not even look at the 4cyl pea shooters trying to save gas

 

The Outback is a 3.6L flat-6. At least, it is in the versions that don't suck (well, aside from the transmission).

Subaru is my wife's DD. When she was 9 months pregnant I totaled our Mazda 3
When shopping a replacement we decided to go bigger. I wanted a cargo van, she said no.
I was hesitant about the CVT but I honestly like it now. If you want to accelerate quickly, put your foot down. It will hold the RPM at redline until you lift.
The CVT in our Outback is very responsive to throttle input.

The big problem with our Subaru is it eats oil at an alarming rate. We are adding at least 1qt between oil changes (5k mile interval). There is a class-action lawsuit pending. Supposedly Subaru is entertaining an extended warranty on the motor. Trying to get free oil changes but looks like that won't happen.

 

Just had a buddy get his engine replaced on a 13 Forester for oil consumption mumbo jumbo too

As for the Subaru oil consumption thing. I was under the impression that it came down to people not allowing the engine to warm up at all before taking off, and that 2-3 minutes of warm-up fixes the issue. Is this not the case?

 

Nope. The case is subaru getting ridiculously terrible at QC and cutting costs on vital engine parts, along with using crappy "environmentally friendly" oil with tons of detergents.
