An unrelated email conversation with an old acquaintance earlier today led me to wonder...

Is theft of data services, at sea, a legitimate act of piracy in the proper maritime sense?

That's exactly what I'm wondering.

Given a strict reading of Admiralty Law, I'm fairly certain that I have committed Piracy on the High Seas, which at last check was punishable by death.

What if the dataz you stole were from this ship? I'd call it piracy if you steal data from a google data ship and have either a peg leg or an eye patch.

The Emergency Stabilization Act was passed in October 1942, which placed wages and agricultural prices under control. There were immediate wage restrictions, and in order to attract labor, the employers offered a range of such fringe benefits as pensions, medical insurance, paid holidays, and vacations. Because the foregoing were not paid out in cash, they did not violate the wage ceiling. Controlling output proved easier than controlling wages.

I took an intro to Micro-economics class my sophomore class of college. My professor looked exactly like John Travolta in SwordFish. It was one of the best classes I took in 5 years of undergrad. I remember a story he told to explain pricing, and why "pricing" did not always mean money. He talked about his father making him wait in line for gas, during the 70's when they had price controls. His point was that the money amount could not go up, but the real price was much higher then shown because of the amount of time you had to spend to actually acquire what you gas. The single class made me move from believing in communism/socialism, to being a die hard capitalist.
