My brother ate nothing but chiken nuggets and grilled cheese until he was about 17. He KNEW that he didn't like what you were offering him, even though he had never tasted it in his life. He wasn't born like that...

I on the other hand will eat just about anything, ask aidan.

Let's face it, if you are feeding your kids chicken nuggets to start with, you are doing them a disservice. It takes energy and a commitment to your kid to serve them a variety of foods that don't come from a box or can for their own health, development, and well being. Ain't nobody got time for that. Let's just warm something up that came from a box in the freezer.

Yes, my kid had chicken fingers from the freezer. They never had them twice in a week, though. And Fruity Pebbles are the devil.

I think you can differentiate between having likes and dislikes, and just being picky.

I have never liked mushrooms. Ever. Was forced to try them multiple times as a child, always hated them, even the smell is off-putting to me. Eventually, my mom just started cooking the mushrooms separately so that everyone else could add them to their dish at the table. I wasn't really a picky eater, I just really hated mushrooms, and I appreciate that my mom was willing to accommodate that to a certain degree.

But apart from that? The rule was that you could eat what was on the table, or you could get up and make yourself a PBJ. I'm sure I occasionally made a PBJ just out of stubbornness, but I mostly ate a lot of really good food, and developed an appreciation for all kinds of different tastes.

I knew I was raising my daughter right when given the choice of what to eat for her 3rd birthday, she asked for grilled fish with the head on.
She insists she picks out the fish at the market, she helps me clean it, and she already knows the best meat is in the cheeks.
It is funny watching my wife cringe when our daughter digs into the fish head.

This is acceptable. Mushrooms are disgusting. I have also tried different kinds many times, just can't do it. My ex-wife would sometimes chop them small and try to sneak them in on me.

I try one every 6 months or so just to check. Nope, still hate 'em.

I did have one particularly traumatizing experience in college. A friend and I had the same night class one semester and we got in the habit of eating dinner in the cafeteria (excuse me, "dining commons") before we headed to class. Often we would get some dessert -- ice cream, or cobbler, or whatever -- and stick it in a styrofoam to-go cup to eat in class. One day, as my friend announced he was going to get some ice cream, I (being lazy) asked him to get some for me as well. He brought back two cups of ice cream and we headed off to class.

After getting settled in the classroom, I dug into my cookies-and-cream ice cream. Perfect! Great way to make a boring night class a little better. Three spoonfuls in, something tasted odd. Just a hint of it. Couldn't quite place it. Another spoonful, and then it hit me -- the bastard had mixed in a layer of mushrooms from the salad bar into my cookies-and-cream ice cream.

That is a GOOD friend. Sneaky and amusing for years.

Finally going in for an MRI tomorrow to see if we can figure out what the **** is wrong with my back.

Random political content:

I'm sure if probably be out several thousand dollars, were it not for Obamacare having a productive job that provides me with a generous health insurance policy. (I still, to this day, cannot understand why employment and health insurance are automatically assumed to be linked together in the US.)

How much are you worth? Willing to learn to TIG/MIG? MKTurbo can offer up free room and board, along with a miata to drive as a job.

I find it oddly hilarious that the Unicode standard includes emoji, and that it apparently has for so long that they're now in Beta on the 5.0 revision of the spec.

Emoji Recently Added, v5.0 ? Beta

If you think about it, the whole notion of Emoji is to better convey communication in its proper (intended) context, so perhaps with another 50K revisions, they may just be able to develop the to the point where they can approximate, you know, actual direct human-to-human dialogue. (God forbid, then we'd never have to leave our digital safety zones).

Speaking of God, I wonder if he could have used at least an early pre-Beta version for the 10 Commandments. He really could have spiced it up a bit with a little "rolleyes", "rofl", or "jk" here and there.

I wonder when, in the future when programmers will start to see emoji unicode breaking their processes because a client sending data over has an idiot (or troll) in the workplace.
