How'd that go, by the way?

I've considered it for years, but am kind of uncertain about the whole "Yeah, I'm gonna be able to lay here perfectly still and not freak out while you slice off the front of my eyeballs and then ablate the exposed internal surface of my cornea" thing.

My mother had both lenses replaced. First one was a total shitshow. Second one was with a different doctor and went much better but not perfect. First one is unable to be redone because you only get one shot at it. She can no longer drive a car.

This reminds me that I had run across a doctor rating website completely based on patient feedback a few years ago. I looked up the ******** doctor who did my brain tumor removal and everybody else thought he was an arrogant ***** too. I can't remember the site but I remember thanking it a great idea.

So trying to watch the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year turned out to be a pain. I cancelled my cable a month ago because they cranked up the price a whole bunch. The plan was to stream it from fiawec.com to the TV's browser, but it's blocked for US and Canada since they're showing the whole thing on Velocity. Playstation Vue has Velocity, so I signed up for a free 5-day trial.

My samsung tv doesn't seem to have a playstation vue app, so I got a chromecast ultra to stream it from the phone. Well, I thought the chromecast would just pull the feed directly, not through the phone with it's craptastic image quality. Now I'm streaming it through chrome on the laptop and sending it to the chromecast. Image quality is better, but this seems like way too much hardware to do this simple task.

Any recommendations on how to do this properly/easily?

Go to France?

Just a little out of my budget at the moment.

You saw the two videos I posted? Multiply the time of both by 2, and that's how long the total procedure took.

The slicing part was the worst -- it felt like someone was jamming their thumb into my eye (suction cup) and then there was a slightly sharp/uncomfortable pain for about 20 seconds as it cut. The laser itself was 15sec in one eye and 14sec in the other -- that was completely pain-free and easy.

The drive home was the worst part. I live about 30min from the place and it was a brilliantly bright day -- even with the provided shades, I had my eyes closed the entire drive home, and i was shielding them with my hands and it was still too bright and making the pain/stinging worse. The stinging lasted for 6 hours always to the minute and they prescribed ambien to knock you out so you get 6-8 hours of sleep. I wasn't expecting the level of discomfort when I left as the pain drops wore off -- but after I woke-up later the evening, my eyes just felt a little tired and I could see nearly perfectly but for some haze.

I've worn glasses since 4th grade, and been complaining more and more about how i hate them. I've always worried about the complications and heard stories, but that was like 15 years ago, whenever I brought it up at work, an avalanche of coworkers fell into my cube to tell me how life-changing and amazing it is, so I let the peer-pressure get to me, went in to see if I was a candidate and left with it scheduled. Today I'm now 20/15 without glasses.

It's pretty amazing to wake up and not have to put on glasses. and I bought myself some hot pink sunglasses.

I'm just terrified that I'd move my eyes during the cutting phase.

Quite frankly, there aren't a lot of things in this world which scare me, but "yes, I agree to let you slice the front of my eyeballs off" is one of them.

My aunt, who turns 80 this year, receives injections about once a month or so in order to retain her vision.
Said injection is administered right into her eye with HUGE ******* needle.

They use anesthetic shots and drops before the procedure to immobilize the eye.
You would not be able to move your eyes even if you tried.

On a lighter and much more pleasant note, gesso and his entire family will be at our place this evening for dinner.

I went to the airport to pick them up and deliver them to their hotel.
They are currently sleeping off their jet lag.

So, thanks to my sister, the family historian, I recently learned that my great great great grandfather was hanged for piracy.

I feel as though this explains a lot about my personality.

Good thing piracy isn't the same as stealing or they would have really treated him badly.

I recently purchased the new ROKU that will stream 4k. Running it through the Onkyo receiver causes constant hangups and video that will start 10-15 after the audio, if it doesn't completely just hang. All cables, receiver, and TV are HDCP 2.2 compliant.

Roku -> Receiver -> TV using the correct ARC I/O on the receiver and TV. According to my order history the HDMI cables should be compliant with everything else in the system, but the "handshake" makes it a PITA.

I hate it when I’m on the can, minding my own business, browsing the internet on my phone, and some jerk with a more powerful phone comes in and steals my bandwidth. I flush. I leave. Break over.

?

How weaksauce is your internet connection and/or router that two phones are capable of bottlenecking it? (And what the hell is the jerk next to you downloading while on the *******?)

I was told to upgrade my ancient router to wireless mesh by someone on a radio talk show but I'm curious what ye may think here.

Unless you have areas in your home which suffer from poor coverage, I don't see the point. For a residential application, mesh networks just seem like a good way to drive up cost and add points of failure unless you absolutely need to ensure that your wifi enabled toilet plunger can always talk to the wifi enabled toaster and they're on opposite ends of a large mansion.

Mesh? No, as clearly stated above.

But a newer router will give you better range, throughput and with no hassles. My old router needed to be rebooted at least once a month. The new one is turn it on and it works. It's been many months since I needed to reboot.

I strongly recommend the Asus RT-N66U. The range on this thing is astounding.
