Congrats! I'm sure you'll enjoy the experience. I'm also 36, also blowing obscene amounts of money on buzzing around in the winged lawnmower that is the C172. If the weather holds out, I hope to finally do my first solo cross country (as in, airport-to-airport, not transnational) flight next week. Also: I just arrived in Casablanca, so need to get back from there first.

Assuming this Corona stuff doesn't blow everything out of the sky, there's rarely been a better time to get into aviation, if that's what you want to do. I myself am hoping for a career change if all works out.

Happy flying!

Thanks! Hope your XC goes well.

OH believe me, I would love to jump ship from IT to being a pilot, but at this point in my career and with the wife and kids at home, it's an incompatible lifestyle at the moment. Doesn't help that my wife is terrified of it. lol.

Once in a great while, every man is presented with an ultimatum.

Some call it a reflection of humanity's unending struggle against nature.

Many view it through a lens of spiritual enlightenment, as part of a self-imposed path towards righteousness.

A devout few interpret it as a genuinely divine calling, as though the literal voice of God has directly stirred them to action.

But regardless of your moral, philosophical and religious convictions, sometimes, you just have to wash the damn shower curtain.

Please help me settle an argument...

Would an electric motor (any electric motor) "burn up" or otherwise suffer internal winding damage if the feed is shorted?
My answer is no, by the way.

Erat 03-09-2020 08:51 AM

Depends on the motor.

I like to think that no it doesn't. But the question always comes up, did the motor go bad, burn windings, get hot, and melt wires together in the peckerhead causing the fuse to blow. Or did the wires vibrate together single phase then burn up the windings and blow the fuse... Chicken or the egg, ya know.

Probably not, but what if the motor was spinning at a very high speed when the wires were shorted and continued to spin?

We have lots of bald eagles where I live, and I've developed a low opinion of them. I'm considering taking a federal seal and changing the Latin script to: "gustibus tamquam pullum", which Google translate tells me is the correct way to say: "tastes like chicken".

This just in..
Whittling is now officially an electronics repair procedure.
As in, carefully whittling the topside of a micro switch to make the damn thing fit in a tight groove.

DOOM Eternal is right around the corner and I am very excited.

We live in absurd times:

The World Health Organization has officially stated that dogs cannot contract the Covid-19 virus.

Apparently, some people have actually been keeping dogs in quarantine out of fear from this current pandemic situation.

They can now be released.

So, to be clear: WHO let the dogs out.

good2go 03-14-2020 02:45 PM

Joe, there were actually some early reports out of China indicating that some owners were throwing there pets (cats as well as dogs) off of high rise buildings to exterminate them out of fear they could be carrying/spreading the virus. It was absolutely gruesome.

Here is a news link, BUT DO NOT CLICK IT if you are sensitive to graphic images of pets.

EDIT: link removed - can be looked up if anybody wants to see it for themselves.

I yield.

"They're victims... not monsters."

Ok, so tardy nerd mode activate. Been working 10-12 hour days 7 days a week for a while, so I'm a little behind. Just watched episode 6 of Picard.

That was, by far, the best episode of Star Trek ever.

Trent 03-16-2020 11:16 AM

I just ... CAN'T support CBS trying to make me subscribe to a whole other streaming platform for ONE show.

I do love me some TNG Star Trek though.

gooflophaze 03-16-2020 11:47 AM

Buy, binge, unsubscribe. Just have to avoid the watercooler.

Huh? I don't have a password. There are ways other than CBS All Access to see it. If you already know what I'm talking about, you'll not have much difficulty. If you don't, then it's probably best you not attempt it.
