Which model? There's a lot of them out there.

I think it's supposed to be the most powerful one they sell?

We had considered the V11 cordless, $400 for a vacuum already seemed crazy, I couldn't bring myself to pay $600 for a vacuum with a smaller canister that wasn't as powerful just because it's slightly more convenient than a corded model.

Nice night for a watch.

I have a three week old son, and someone gave us one of these weird things:

Not something I would have ever bought myself (talk about a solution looking for a problem - it's just a fancy pointless swing), but my boy seems to like it about as much as a normal swing, so it's been getting some use. It plays some pre-recorded sounds, but it also has an aux jack so you can play music of your choice through its speakers (you can control it via bluetooth but only play music via the aux). So I grabbed an old iPod Shuffle that's been sitting in a cabinet for years, and I'm putting all of GLaDOS's voice tracks from Portal 2 on it, so it will play when the thing is on. GLaDOS was the first thing I thought of when I saw it, so I figured I might as well give it the voice as well.

Only 166 days left until John McAfee eats his own dick on national television.

Finally broke down and bought a new phone.

Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite. Pretty impressive little thing.
(Lite is apparently better than the Pro model according to comparisons published by people who geek out on phones, which is pretty interesting given the price difference.)

Is that pronounced "show me me"?

Did I miss an update from Mr. Perez regarding feet of water in the Sears Tower?

It was emptied out in a day or two. Don't think we heard many updates after that. I think stuff is working. At least working well enough to be that not be the biggest concern any more.

Took about a week to get the power back on at our floor, and another 2 weeks after that for all of the data circuits that went through the basement to be fully restored. Once power was back on, I got the transmitter running again using the backup microwave feed from the studio.

Powering that room back up from a cold shutdown was a first. I spent a couple of days working on what turned into a three page checklist before doing it. Was fairly uneventful. No damage to any of the pumps, motors, electronics, etc. (My stuff up on 98, that it.)

The pressure in the transmission line did fully leak down during that time, but fortunately no moisture seems to have gotten in.

Cool, I was just curious if there were any more problems. I find that stuff fascinating.

My 3 port MAC Valve crapped out and I am down to WG pressure.
And, it turns out 8 psi is dreadfully slow.

On an ironically related note, when I had first boosted my car back in 2008, my MP62 was making about 8 psi.
I was sooo impressed...

Anyway. 20 psi at any rpm, any gear is much nicer.
Time to get a new MAC valve.

Maybe I'll go for a 4 port this time around.

House wiring question:

The stove fan system in our house has both a single speed upper fan on the roof, and a 2 speed hood fan right above the stove. Both fans need to be on to open local spring loaded flapper doors & let the stank out. The roof fan used to be powered by the fancy 80's stove, and now has no power since I replaced the stove & cut the cord. The wife only wants to have to flip the fan switch on the hood, which currently only controls the 2 speed fan in the hood.
It seems like I need a solenoid that will turn on the single speed roof fan when the wife turns on the hood fan to either high or low. Is that a thing? Anyone recommend such a device?

TurboTim 08-24-2020 01:04 PM

Like, a relay?

wackbards 08-24-2020 01:22 PM

Jebus. That's what I'm trying to say. I stopped drinking coffee this week, and I'm suffering from borderline dementia right about now. Yes. A relay switch. I've never wired one into a house, but it must be a thing.

Joe Perez 08-24-2020 01:37 PM

On the two-speed fan: does the motor have two different taps for the two speeds? Eg: are the two wires going to the motor, or three?

wackbards 08-24-2020 01:42 PM

4 wires to the hood fan. Looks to be ground, neutral, hot high, & hot low. Roof fan is basic 2 wire + gnd.
