Depends. Powder coating needs to have the surface prepped to stick. But it sounds like it wasn't pc, but just paint.

Am I the only one who has fun at the track but is constantly worried about the car breaking, then realizes he's slow and is pissed off for the rest of the trip, then gets home and watches the video and gets really, really pissed off, then decides he hates this ------- hobby,then thinks he should sell the car and do something more fun that I won't beat myself up over? I'm so pissed off and embarrassed that I don't really want to show up to the next race. I was a full second slower than the SM lap record last weekend. I'm basically not a man. Maybe I should end my account here since I'm such a pathetic son of bitch bastard dumbass ------. I should have been 7 seconds faster than I was, or at least .5 seconds faster to eclipse the super-old SM record.
