So, without telling me who actually won the presidential election, can anybody tell me whether the results of the election itself have actually been deemed to be final and uncontested?

Please no spoilers. I am conducting a scientific experiment which requires that I remain ignorant as to the identity of the president-elect. Violators will be banned, and I am not kidding. I haven't listened to the radio, visited any internet news sites, or even looked in the direction of a newspaper vending machine in two days. I'm even averting my gaze from the "New Posts" section of forums just to be safe.

 

One presidential candidate has definitely called the other presidential candidate to concede the election, and has delivered a public concession speech. Barring some kind of discovery of massive voter fraud, yes, the election is final and uncontested.

 

DAMMIT!

I just realized that by asking that very question, I have potentially compromised the experiment. What the hell was I thinking?

Actually, I'm not sure about that. This gets into some metaphysical territory...


edit: No, I think I'm good. Enough time has elapsed, and even now I continue to be personally unaware of the actual outcome of the election, only that from the point of view of another observer at a different location, the election has been revolved.


Now I just have to wait a year or two for the data to become available.

Exactly.

So long as I don't observe the results of the election, both Obama and Romney are simultaneously the President-elect. And if I can somehow manage to remain ignorant through next January, we should, in theory, wind up with two presidents at the same time.

I just need to wait a year or two for new high-school history books to be printed, and see if they contain any notes concerning a highly unusual outcome to the 2012 election.

The only thing that concerns me is that I am travelling to NYC tomorrow, where I will be working in the same facility as both CBS 880 and 1010WINS, which are the two biggest news stations in the country. I fear the possibility of inadvertent exposure.

 

And good luck remaining uninformed Joe, your job is not going to make it easy on you. I'm equally curious in the experiment just to see how long one can go without discovering the results by happenstance.
