hpde complaints

I was following people too closely. Off record the event coordinators that is supposed to talk to my instructor and I seemed to think it was funny.
What are you supposed to do when some SOB won't give you a point by???
You can only follow behind for so long before you have to say "Hey, I'm not going anywhere, and now I am going to do everything possible to make you uncomfortable."
I mean crap....When I'm completely off the gas and about to pass in a corner from pure momentum.....give me a point on the next straight. I'm purposely not downshifting on some corners because getting back on the gas will put into the car in front of me.
I think their instructors are telling them not to point me by because they will loose me in the straight. Nope!
My car is handling fantastic to boot! I was having a blast. I took the multiple complaints as a compliment.

Honestly you might be doing something wrong. It's one thing to get on their *** for a corner or two to say you need a point by, but it's another thing when they don't give it and you keep going. If you don't get a point by, you need to pull into the pits and ask for space.
Yeah, I earn my old age reputation.

You can also space-out on the track by parking it somewhere and waving packs of **** by you. I want space more than I want to pass McLarens.

I agree, it's a waste to sit behind some douche, following his imperfect line, breathing his exhaust, and being all in all bored. OP shouldn't be entirely to blame though, flaggers should be blue flagging, organizers should be warning about this kind of crap in the driver's meeting*, and obviously the driver in front should be watching his mirrors and giving a point by**. If none of these things are happening however, the solution should not be to sit on their tail. Back off, pull into the pits, and/or approach the drivers if it's only one or two.
*one of the bigger orgainizers is CSCC in my area, Cascade Sports Car Club. Every driver's meeting they use the example of a miata catching a viper in the corners and getting murdered in the only passing zone, the straights. "make sure you let off when you give the point by, and give one if they're tail gating you in the corners. Or we'll meat ball you." And they have.
**It's also your job to have eagle eyes on the interior of their car. Instructors often give near useless point bys from inside the car, or the driver is scared to break the "keep you hands and arms inside the car at all times" rule. I've been approached a number of times by drivers saying they had given the point by, and felt bad that I obviously didn't see it, since I wasn't passing. This might only be happening 1 out of 10 hold ups, but it's worth a check.

haha Hustler, I admire your suggestion of NASA, but you don't get into DE4 just because you want to.
Ultimately as you climb up the DE ladder, people get a bit more lax with point-bys. DE2 will have more mature drivers who don't care, and DE3 will have even more. DE4, well at that point it usually doesn't matter.
Dave, don't feel too bad (although curly may have a point, I doubt its true). I get complaints too, and other times drivers will come by and ask to see my car (expecting a turbo from my stickers).

He ran with PCA which should explain a lot - bunch of Porsche snobs... come on back with ReZoom David. Problem with Barbers is - NASA doesn't run there for no-pb passing, next best thing is PBOC super-solo group which is like DE4, next step up is club racing with PBOC, BMWCCA, or SCCA. Otherwise, Chin and ReZoom allow PBs anywhere on track - once to make it into the advance group, young padawan
I may be shopping a new turbo. I'd rather not buy a set of slicks for a 15x7 wheel. Id rather burn through this rubber, then buy a set of 15x9s and run rs3s I've got to send my manifold in for repair anyway, so I think I'll upgrade to the trackspeed inconel stuff at the same time. I might just upgrade to a better flowing manifold. I know the GT2871R is the hot ticket, but I'm wondering if there is an older BW that is comparable. I'll have to talk to Sav.
