Q for PS3 owners...
so i have this $439 Bestbuy GC and have a buncha responses on trades:
option 1: OG 20GB PS3 (emotion engine, extremely backwards compatible) w/ only "Resistance" game and Talledega Nights blu-ray
option 2: like new 80GB PS3 w/ no games. (have trouble playing GT4 w/ latest firmware)
assuming i'm mainly buying the PS3 for blu-ray and PS2 compatibility, which of the 2 would you chose? and no, i don't want WII/XBOX360.
TIA!
(edited for clarity)

If WII & X360 is not an option ...
I would choose neither of the options above I just have a different point of at Sony compared to most (if not all) of you
P.P.S. Keep in mind the 80GB PS3 is lacking half of the hardware for backwards compatibility - if that matters to you.

Btw Tony, what's that desire about getting a PS3?
X360 is the much better option when you look at the software library.
The X360 is the lead development platform at the majority of the game companies and the PS3 is the thing which gets the quick port (which most devs don't even care to polish well) ...
This is how it's been and unlikely to change this generation because the Microsoft development platform and support is light years ahead ...
Unless you really really want it to play some particular game which is exclusive on the PS3 ...

Man some people dont read, and whats worse is that some ppl dont know what they are talking about.... Last i heard xbox has been the lead platform cause its been the only one. From what i understand things are moving over to the PS3.

And I haven't seen much difference in development platforms choices (360 vs PS3) nowadays vs an year ago ...
About the PS2 compatibility - just get one of the new slim PS2 and be done with it. PS3 won't bring you anything on that front - most PS2 games even look better on native PS2 than emulated on PS3 ...
P.S. Btw my experiences/views are not from the consumer/gamer side, but from where the stuff gets created ...

j_man. i don't know what your "grudge" is against Sony, nor do i really wish to dive into that abyss but...
i want Blu-Ray player. i play (some, tho not that many) PS2 games. GT5 is in my future. a really specific Q was asked because of my personal situation which is: i own a PS2 which is finally dying after 8 years. i'm running out of component in's ni my H/K component-switching AVR 7300. it's either PS2 or PS3. and i just got a Marantz VP-12S2 (which happens to be for sale.
the PS3 will be my new DVD player/game console. there is really no argument, merely which "package" to buy.
again, thanks to all those who contributes... and to those who couldn't - you know what your mom said.
