Or maybe you don't understand what methanol/ethanol does. It's LESS volatile (HIGHER octane rating). It raises the detonation threshold not by reducing the temperature of the charge, but by raising octane (and adding a bit of oxygen to the mixture as well).

1.8 engine parts (oil pan, 2001 windage tray, motor mounts)
1.6 alternator, water pump pulley, and crank pulley.
What is left to do:

2. Buy a new carpet
3. Paint the car
4. Alcohol injection
5. Upgrade the oil cooling system.
6. Upgrade the suspension.

Although Methanol/Ethanol have a higher octane rating, they are actually more prone to preignition, this isnt a problem when running on pure alcohol like they do with drag cars and whatnot, but it is a problem when running on gasoline because the preignition can stimulate detonation. This is why youre not supposed to run pure "meth" injection, because if you inject enough the tendency to pre-ignite will overwhelm the lower IATs.
This is well documented in "The High speed internal combustion engine" written by Harry R. Ricardo, who was pretty much the founder of water injection as we know it today.

Being a chemist I can vouche for this assessment of volatilization. The water is mainly used in conjunction with the alcohols as it has a relatively massive specific heat capacity to other solvents.
Heat Capacities:
Water (liquid) = 4.1813 J/(g*K)
Water (gas) = 2.080 J/(g*K)
MeOH (liquid) = 2.48 J/(g*K)

Now the bit about pre-ignition and whatnot I have mixed feeling about.
The source is very reputable, but also very old.
And so many people are very successful with E85 which is a mix od petrol and ethanol.
It may be possible that there is a very strange relationship between concentration of ethanol and detonation. Which would make sense because it is a balancing act between IATs, octane, and detonation threshold.
