I saw it on SYFY. Fuel pumps explode all the time. Now injectors, filters, lines, FPRs, those wont blow up ever. And fuel pumps wont blow up if they are in the back, even in a rear-end colission. Thank goodness Hyper is around to help us.

I sent Hyper a text message asking him if that thread was for real, he hasn't replied back......

What's really bugging me is that I'm 98% sure that he had a water injection kit on his old silver NA.

I guess it's hard to figure out new things when you are too busy trying to convince people that your re-route is the best???

Or maybe you don't understand what methanol/ethanol does. It's LESS volatile (HIGHER octane rating). It raises the detonation threshold not by reducing the temperature of the charge, but by raising octane (and adding a bit of oxygen to the mixture as well).

Funny you mention it, that thread's been pretty dead recently: http://clubroadster.net/vb_forum/sho...d.php?p=519298

Now that you mentioned that, he did have WI, and he would talk about that very ofter. :dunno:

Now you have me wondering if he's punkin us :squint:

I'd like to know, I'm pretty sick of his trolling over there.

And apparently you dont know what "Volatile" is.
Volatility is how well a liquid vaporizes.
Ethanol/Methanol have higher volatility, so it vaporizes better, thus reducing the temperature of the charged air.

Although Methanol/Ethanol have a higher octane rating, they are actually more prone to preignition, this isnt a problem when running on pure alcohol like they do with drag cars and whatnot, but it is a problem when running on gasoline because the preignition can stimulate detonation. This is why youre not supposed to run pure "meth" injection, because if you inject enough the tendency to pre-ignite will overwhelm the lower IATs.

This is well documented in "The High speed internal combustion engine" written by Harry R. Ricardo, who was pretty much the founder of water injection as we know it today.

Being a chemist I can vouche for this assessment of volatilization. However, this fact does play a role in them having a higher octane rating (but is not the only one). The water is mainly used in conjunction with the alcohols as it has a relatively massive specific heat capacity to other solvents.

Heat Capacities:
Water (liquid) = 4.1813 J/(g*K)
Water (gas) = 2.080 J/(g*K)
MeOH (liquid) = 2.48 J/(g*K)
EtOH (liquid) = 2.44 J/(g*K)

Hm, thats a pretty substantial difference in specific heat capacity.

Now the bit about pre-ignition and whatnot I have mixed feeling about.
The source is very reputable, but also very old.
And so many people are very successful with E85 which is a mix od petrol and ethanol.

It may be possible that there is a very strange relationship between concentration of ethanol and detonation. Which would make sense because it is a balancing act between IATs, octane, and detonation threshold.

I saw that... :bowrofl: What's the difference being in the trunk, frame rail, or anywhere else? A fire can happen regardless of it's location, but a grenade it is not. Mythbuster's even had an episode with this very scenario.

There was a time when he was a sane and sensible person. Long time ago though.

And I'm very tempted to fulfill your request.
