I used to own a prior generation sonata. Before getting it, I drove a tiberon a bunch. The Hyundais do have quite nice interiors. Everyone who rode in the sonata was very impressed. The tiberon seemed ok but it wrong wheel drive. Hyundais depreciate like the ******* stock market so in 3 years you can probably get a 2.0 for 10,000 tops. Seriously. If I got one i would put the vainty tag bimbap on it :P

My favorite rental car of all time was a v6 Sonata with leather in Santa Fe. I loved rhomping on that ****** in the mountains. The interior was baller, decent mpg, the car was fast, and it never broke. I'd buy a Genesis sedan.

I saw one of the sales people from the dealer down the street test driving one on the interstate.. I was rolling along side checking it out. It looks MUCH better in person. I think he wanted to play but I had somewhere to be and traffic was not right to play.
Oh the revvs staying up in neutral is emissions related...lots of newer manual trans cars do this.

I forgot to mention that I rented te current model V6 sonata. That was a VERY nice car. Yeah, Hyundai quality at least with regard to fit and polish absolutely annihilates american makes. That car was decently powerful, very smooth, quiet, a great cruiser. I'm still a little afraid of Hyundai quality-- on my old Sonata the paint started flaking away because they used a cruddy primer in the factory. They wouldn't cover that under warranty and didn't issue a TSB
I'll wait a few more years but by then they probably won't be selling at a discount to toyota/honda.

Figured some of you might be interested in this -
We convinced the local hyundai dealership to bring a 2.0 genesis coupe by our shop and throw it on the dyno. It put down 179 wheel horse and just over 200 lbs of torque, which is really quite good. Now the real shocker - the turbo wastegate runs just under 3lbs of boost. It starts off at about 4.5, and then goes down to 2.8 really quick. The power potential on this car is amazing. Just turning the boost up to 8 or 9 pounds would yield ridiculous results.

Wow!
They probably did the smartest thing they could do...save their engineers the work.
Since everyone even halfway interested in modding one of these will have to do something about engine management, boost control etc...why pay for research and development. They just strapped a turbo on it, set it to run at sub-Greddy boost, and kept the price reasonable, and the potential mind-boggling.
Me likey

The boost control system on that car is kinda goofy. It uses the wastegate and bypass valve to control boost.
If you hit the overboost protection it won't produce any boost at all, the bypass valve will open up and the car runs N/A until you restart it.

That motor must have been running in safe mode cause the one I put a gauge on boosts ~13lbs from 3K to 4K then drops back to 11lbs and holds it to redline.

I haven't been following it too closely but in theory the EVO X motor will bolt into that engine bay.
Also the engine bay is more than large enough to put an LSX motor in.
This car should be an awesome tuning platform in the years to come.
