My parents remodeled thier house a few months ago. My dad thought it would be a good idea to save a mirror....why, I dunno. My dad asked me to help him move it to his basement one day...I came over and we could barely lift the bitch, so that's where it has sat since.

Sissy.

Braineack 06-25-2007 08:40 PM

you've never lifted a 10' x 7' mirror before have you?

y8s 06-25-2007 09:21 PM

oddly i lived with a guy who had a mirror in the garage. it was his gym. then I moved in and parked all my car shit in there and awwwww he was a dick anyway.

Braineack 06-26-2007 01:50 PM

cleaned the bay where you can see it. I cleaned the piss out of it, and then tapped it with some paint I have that's a very close match....looks good in person, will probably last 5 minutes after it's running again.

I was sure you laid it under the car at NOPI events...:D

Braineack 06-26-2007 04:11 PM

nah, got a camera in my shoe for that...duh.

m2cupcar 06-26-2007 04:33 PM

I meant for showing off the under carriage - not upskirts! :jerkit: :ky:

Braineack 06-26-2007 04:36 PM

ohhh...no one wants to see my leaking diff, bent rails and sludgy oilpan.

xturner 06-26-2007 04:42 PM

I don't know. Might make me feel better about MY sludgy oil pan and leaking rear tranny seal......

Braineack 06-26-2007 04:44 PM

well....to be honest, i did just clean my pan up...you can see the attached pic...it's all shiny.

y8s 06-26-2007 04:58 PM

maybe you can get swain to coat it with oil dispersant :gay:

getsidewaysd1 06-26-2007 06:25 PM

So fresh and so clean..........well for now anyway.

No I stick to bars that me and my friends make. They gotta weigh something close though.

Braineack 06-28-2007 02:47 PM

only one update for today. clutch and timing belt back together. head torqued.

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...inepull023.jpg

tonight will be testing the resistance values of my CLT temp sensor.

tomorrow shall be putting tranny/starter back, valve cover, & return fitting. Then it's ready to go all back in on saturday

y8s 06-28-2007 02:51 PM

good work. now you deserve the beer later.

Braineack 06-28-2007 02:56 PM

seriously, it's f'in hot out.

but i feel stupid I took the belt off at least 10 times trying to get 16 teeth in between the marks, not 19. Finally I gave up and figured it HAD to be right...turns out it was, and i could have stopped on the first try.

Newbsauce 06-28-2007 03:07 PM

Don't feel stupid until you take your car to a shop and they keep it for several months to see how mad you can get. Thats when you feel stupid.

neogenesis2004 06-28-2007 04:55 PM

I bet you feel like the stupidest kid in town then ;)

Fireindc 06-28-2007 06:15 PM

Damn, looking great scott!

Makes me realize how lazy i am..

iluvtruenos 06-28-2007 07:12 PM

delicious

Braineack 06-28-2007 09:34 PM

I might have figured out why my temperature readings are about 20°F lower than they should. I was able test the resistance values of my sensor. Very close to in line with the what the manual says, obviously. I believe the values I gave easytherm were slightly off the scale. We'll see soon enough.

here's the difference between what I recorded today along with the factory values....against what I currently have plugged in:

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...resistance.jpg

rotaryjunky 06-28-2007 11:22 PM

I really need to start testing stuff like that with my sensors/ULIs at work.

Braineack 06-29-2007 02:12 PM

so....putting the finishing touches on the engine, and of course something had to break...it was my oil feed fitting:

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...nebuild001.jpg

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...nebuild002.jpg

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...nebuild003.jpg

Luckily I was able to extract it...I'm pissed I barely tightened the booger.

Here is the completed longblock:

and the AT TB with TPS I was able to source:

magnamx-5 06-29-2007 02:16 PM

Why no dual feed fuel rail scot?

jayc72 06-29-2007 02:20 PM

Same thing happened to my greddy supplied fitting. Banjo fitting FTW!

Looks like it is coming along nicely!

neogenesis2004 06-29-2007 02:22 PM

It's because it was an Al fitting. Buy a steel one next time.

Braineack 06-29-2007 02:23 PM

you can see the fuel hose hanging there with the brass tee...I just had to unhook it from the back when i was pulling the connections in that area. I mean, I did do the writeup on it.

yeah i know it's aluminum and that's why, i was surprised because I barely cranked on it...I hand tightened it and went at it with a wrench and blamo! I was trying to be carfeul because I know how easy they are to snap....you think I haven't snapped any brass fittings before ;)

Philip 06-30-2007 02:31 PM

look at the fucking zip ties

Braineack 06-30-2007 05:03 PM

I'll make sure to detail them in full for you once completed.

magnamx-5 06-30-2007 07:06 PM

make sure all the zip ties at least match and no more worm clamps either :hahano:

It's back in. Just the turbo bits left and driveshaft:

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...ssemble001.jpg

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...ssemble002.jpg

A while back I was surfing through the new FM installation instructions and saw the low radiator hose they use. Well I liked it and got one...frees a lot of space just under the turbo (my drain fitting rubbed on it).

Ben 07-02-2007 02:37 PM

No coolant re-route for Brainy?

Braineack 07-02-2007 02:43 PM

coolant reroute = effort, time, money.

Will be done on built engine once completed. (see thread 1-2 years from now)

y8s 07-02-2007 04:18 PM

hey that looks easier than the crap I did with two random hoses and a hose nipple.

by the way, your shit gonna SMOKE like a SOB when you start it the first few times. :gay:

magnamx-5 07-02-2007 04:20 PM

the more i read about the reroute the more of a PITA it seems fuck it, i doubt i ever do one.

you think? that manifold was white when i pulled it...greasy hands later; it's saturated in oil/grime.

magnamx-5 07-02-2007 04:44 PM

dont forget to clamp those hoses down man, just in case you get to excited this will be my excuse to say i told you so if you don't :gay:

Braineack 07-02-2007 04:46 PM

oh there will be something I forget...there always is. I just gotta try really hard not to crank it before my oil feed fitting comes in.

I found out why the last engine blew....the waterpump is leaking. Gotta replace it...dunno why I decided against swapping mine over with a new gasket, but it serves me right. Oh well. Everything else is done, only puts me back a day.

cueball1 07-06-2007 12:10 AM

Engine out, changed the timing belt and you didn't change the water pump. Doh! Even Guru's screw up.

I've got a bunch of heavy duty twisty ties you can have, if you decide zips aren't pissing Philip off enough.

Thanks for the shot of the flexi coolant hose. Looks like a great idea and an inexpensive solution. I wonder who FM got the idea from?

Well I got a new gasket now, but I'm still just swapping my original waterpump in there (2 years old). It was a gamble i debated about with peeps and I lost.

Yeah I wonder....I'm pissed because that's the only local shop I didn't think of calling. No biggie.

Braineack 07-06-2007 01:43 PM

yep, bastard gaskest!

https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...ssemble020.jpg

it started leaking more once i pulled that firt bolt you see...but it was obvious before that it was leaking like a champ.

Braineack 07-08-2007 01:37 PM

It's done. Gotta clamp down better on one of the heater hoses, but other than that it's idling. Needs a better tune with MegaSquirt, I guess having a shitty block makes you have to tune accordingly.

compression: 187 | 182 | 183 | 185

mxv 07-08-2007 05:36 PM

what caused the piston/ring failure would you say?

Braineack 07-08-2007 05:51 PM

heat/load + boost + bad block to begin with.

did your blind grandmother do this IC pipe weld or what?

Braineack 07-09-2007 09:27 PM

aw, give me a break already. i didn't weld it, and if i did, it would look just as bad. Don't really care.

it's running again and has cool miataturbo.net stickers all over it.

supra441979 07-09-2007 10:18 PM

where can I get those flex coolant hoses?

magnamx-5 07-10-2007 07:53 AM

Napa autozone FM etc.

There was a reason I took a shot of the part number and store label.....

TonyV 07-10-2007 08:21 PM

lol, i just wrote it down as I'm off to get one!!

Brain glad to hear ur back on the road...and thanks for more great shots and and info...

Any diff on the butt dyno now that ur pipe isnt restricted...or not noticeable?

I hate those damn things, they don't flow as well as a straight hose and put stress on the radiator neck to keep them bent. I used them on the V8 FC and wouldn't again unless I absolutely had to

m2cupcar 07-10-2007 08:59 PM

I think the majority of cash invested in this turbo setup went to Tbolt clamps...no? ;)

juhanis 07-10-2007 09:16 PM

reminded me of my motor troubles... i just bought another long block for $100, and threw it in. back to terrorizing "faster" cars out there.
