I have been giving those old volvo's more and more thought the last few years. They are damn near free and apparently have huge potential. Not to mention oddly apealing looks. Smoking porsche's in a miata is fun, doing it in a Volvo is epic.

There are 6 242s listed on "blocket", the swedish equivalent to CL, within a 2hour drive from me. How many would you like and where should I send them? And yes, the car on the picture is Swedish (but you probably knew that already).

I am no Volvo-expert, but I think that a 5cylinder engine from an 850? That is a really good engine, at least.

Around here, every farmers boy has one, since the Volvo 240-model once was the most common car on the road in Sweden and drivetrain-wise they never ever die. Their problem has always been that they are heavy and that they handle poorly. Dispite that... yes, I have consider buying one, just for fun and perhaps a bit of rallying on the frozen lakes in winter times. Like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eftw5...eature=related

What they are usually used for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U-u9id3yVEc

Edit: Did the 240 Turbo ever make it to the US?

Edit again: Maybe not the best way to promote the 240, but a proof that they make fairly good rally cars: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-DiK...eature=related

I need one particular part...

A hydraulic clutch pedal for my 245. They were on the V6 240s. At least here in the states.

The DOHC head is also available in the US on the non-turbo IIRC..all the turbo models here have SOHC.

Yup. '89, '90, and '91 cars. Owned a '90 and a '91.

The swap is very popular and super easy to do. I've got a 16v sitting on my bench in the garage. I wanna do some work on it before I throw it on.

Those volvos are beasts. I would love to own one but I cant afford another car atm... my dd is a lexus ES300, my autotragic miata is registered as "parked, non running" and the woman says I cant even think about the other miata until after christmas... let alone another car... might ditch the lexus at some point, but its a great car.

At the Fallon raceway I have seen some of those volvos destroy cars way above its own price limit.

This is the car that first got into turbocharging. I watch this video at least once a week to help me stay motivated for more power.

I'm hooked on the idea of making cars that are not supposed to be fast....fast. This was it for me. I ripped my supercharger off and starting hunting for turbo parts not even two weeks after watching this video.

One day....one day I will have a turbo volvo

I assume it is for the -84 in your sign? Email me on torkel at kristensson dot org. I found a donor car at a junkyard, but a bit too far away from me. Will call them tomorrow. Maybe a buddy of mine can swing by and grab your part.

Sorry for crapping the thread.
