WTF is fine arts?

I have a degree in business technology and finance with minor in psychology.

I am not knocking on Begi, just this little thing known as the internet and how you portray yourself goes a very long way when it comes to making money. Your website is literally your resume.

Loki047 12-11-2007 11:31 AM

For those who lack google: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fine_art

-----------------------------

I just can't imagine what seems like a successful like begi, taking the advice of a recent college grad with no experience. But I could be wrong, it hasn't happened yet, but it could.

Saml01 12-11-2007 11:39 AM

If I am saying something incorrect then please dispute me. Though I am mentioning nothing that requires a college education to access.

I also have no idea how you are assuming I have no experience, I have been working since the age of 14 and have never been unemployed for more then 6 months total since then.

Edit: Advice is free, Begi can listen or not but my opinion stands. Small changes like this will only bring benefits. I gave a first hand, customer side first impression.

Your site is for a different crowd, not the crowd that brings in hordes of cash sadly when compared to the DIY'Selfer and garage tinkerer.

Sam's totally right the impressions are important - and no one can say what HIS impression was but him. And the impression of someone who's installed a kit (not even driven it) it very different from someone buying his first kit.

For me, the main decision maker was a lack of Dyno Charts (yes, capitalized). When looking at the options on FM's site, there was the two cat kit, the one cat kit, and I got a sense for the difference. The noticeably peakier power on the chart gave me, well, food for thought. And the fact they HAD so many charts made it really obvious they ran these kits day in, day out. It was proof. There's also (I forget their name) who claims to pump out 650 hp miatas all day long, with one pick of a white miata and girls in bikinis draped all over it.

From website alone, the credibility was definitely in FM's court. With the books and general opinion of the companies, I found BEGI to be about even, and in the end I went with what I thought would get me smog compliance. Only to find out it was never done.

Anyway, for myself, the more information the better, especially about somehting I haven't done before. Then again, FM does well putting up just text saying "we really know our stuff". One thing I've learned, assuming the average view of something is mine is dead wrong. How many of you live in towns with more than 100 DIY turbo miatas?

Oh, that's right. We're all weird. :-)

Saml01 12-11-2007 01:08 PM

AbeFM, Begi has dyno charts, except one problem. The link is impossible to notice because its tiny and shoved into a corner.

But I think Begi wins on the slogan. Performance Innovation Reliability.

Heres another suggestion:

I think the site also needs a section with Bio's. Kinda like meet the family, if you really want to reach out and be one with the people you gotta get more personal. For example, http://www.factoryfive.com/. Go click on company, and then "Meet the Team". How awesome is that? As well as the other links that let you know more about them.

That little bit, goes a long way I think.

AbeFM 12-11-2007 02:02 PM

And "Forced-Induction-Cat"?

paul 12-11-2007 02:21 PM

Tim, are you getting all this?

There are many intrinsic benefits with my suggestions or as I like to say "Sex sells".

Look at it from this angle. Considering the average miata driver:inout:, when they see a picture of Stephanie on the site they will think "hmm, if I buy their products maybe I can score a chick like that too". ;)

But truthfully, it all goes back to perception. When I think Flyin'Miata I think of a bunch of alter cockers when I think Begi I think of fine shiksas. <- Joke for Loki

Stephanie Turner 12-11-2007 03:45 PM

Ya'll are all nuts. :)

Agreed. We are going to make lots of small changes. Corky is of the generation that would prefer to speak to someone in person versus "go order it online". Getting him convinced to make a major change like online ordering has not been easy. And honestly, knowing that we were eventually, one day, going that route, I have not made as many changes to the site. There will be TONS more information on the new site.

Ugh....... Ok. Fine. If a girl can install this part and tune it.... well then surely someone else could too. Right? Maybe? ;)
We do have some posted already....

I was totally going to let the hot thing go, but nope, now I'm on the sex-sells bandwagon. You rock.

Also, I like how we can see your phone number on the screen of your cellphone. Except drunken calls at 2 am from at least five or six of us, now and then.

P.S. That's a high intercooler, what's the rest of that engine bay look like?

y8s 12-11-2007 04:35 PM

ok i'll shop at either store but STEPH please resize pictures before putting them on the website. using the "height" and "width" descriptors in the IMG tag sucks! I dont want to load a huge image just to display a thumbnail. second to that, use more compression in your jpgs. nothing should be higher quality than 7 on your site.

case in point:
http://bellengineering.net/Images/Sh...s/PA242471.JPG
is on your homepage displays at 142 pixels tall. it's also 215kb. should be closer to 50-60kb.

compare to this image:
http://bellengineering.net/Images/CastElbows_Sm.jpg
which is 183 pixels tall and a whopping 5kb. notice how it loads with the page, not 30 seconds later.

there are examples of this on every page.

it's like taking a greyhound bus.... and squeezing it into the shape of a miata.

kyle242gt 12-11-2007 04:52 PM

what is this?! web design 101?

People who take the time to talk to both companies will choose Bell every time.

yes I know you hate it, but it's frustrating from a customer perspective--especially when my job has a slow internet connection... ;)
