Didn't know you were selling/didn't want a steel frame/wanted to build it myself.

So I've been riding the crap out of my little Fuji. I was on a local trail and got the **** beat out of me. Exposed rocks, roots, drops, you name it. I slightly bent a wheel and the rear axle popped out. Also had issues shifting under power, and with traction. LBS says my $400 bike just wasn't ddesigned for that kind of abuse, and recommended a $1,200 rockhopper. Are the full of it? Or should I just upgrade my tires and wheel set and keep the hammer down?

How much are wheels, how much to fix the RD if it needs more than adjustment, and are you happy on the bicycle? $1200 is a lot of money to me.

Its possible the bent wheel is just a 1 time thing, it was like $12 when I had one of my wheels straightened and trued at the local bike shop, and its been fine since. How the heck did you pop the rear axle out though? It MUST have been loose, or loosened up going over the gnar. Which derailure is having problems shifting under power, I always hear about people saying the front wont shift under power. I never have that problem, might be the benefit of the grip shifter though because I can over travel the front then back it off because it has way more detents than gears. If the rear is more than just an adjustment I have no issues with the cheapy SRAM derailleur I replaced the stock one with, and it actually keeps its adjustment unlike the original one.

was that fuji $400 new? most 'mountain' bikes in that price range are designed to cruise around the neighborhood and occasionally see a dirt road/smooth trails. if you are riding a lot/aggressively you'll start to break stuff on a cheap bike.

I'd say get the wheel straightened if you can, get new tires and ride it until it dies. Then make a decision on spending more money. I think it would be a waste to dump $200+ on new wheels/tires for a $400 bike.

Thanks for the advise. I also believe the axle was loose. The wheel bend is just a lip bend, enough to make The brakes pulse a bit. I'll get it tuned up and keep giving it hell.

you can gently bend that lip back with a crescent wrench (take tire off first). BE CAREFUL as it's probably an aluminum rim and if you bend it back too much it will crack.

Going with the wife this weekend to look at bikes for her.

She likes the wider CX style tires because they ride smoother and she took this out on a spin.

Norco Threshold A3.

Not the greatest component groups, but shes not competitive and likely wont ride it THAT much.

I dropped on today's ride, hard as ****. They tried to bring me back with 30 miles to go and I said, "I'm done, this is done. It's time for me to eat candy bars and bananas now, see you later." lol

Not a track bike, as it has gears and brakes. Track has neither. More like a Time Trial stage in a multi-day race.

Yes, pretty trick with steel tubes, that used to be all straight save the forks. Easy-Peasy now with carbon, as long as manufacturer is willing to buy the molds.

Hustler, you once asked, "Why Campy?" Note the C-Record group with Delta brakes. Actually, neither good designs, but pretty, and attempting to be innovative. To my knowledge, first Aero cable routing from the brake levers.

I tried to jump from 72 miles a couple of weeks ago, to 100 today. Real nice cramps. Shortened the end of route to 93 miles total. More reasonable step in miles.
