If FEMA had the bicycles, would it fund Hustler's manlet bib?

So I've been riding the crap out of my little Fuji. I was on a local trail and got the **** beat out of me. Exposed rocks, roots, drops, you name it. I slightly bent a wheel and the rear axle popped out. Also had issues shifting under power, and with traction. LBS says my $400 bike just wasn't ddesigned for that kind of abuse, and recommended a $1,200 rockhopper. Are the full of it? Or should I just upgrade my tires and wheel set and keep the hammer down?

I'd say get the wheel straightened if you can, get new tires and ride it until it dies. Then make a decision on spending more money. I think it would be a waste to dump $200+ on new wheels/tires for a $400 bike.

Going with the wife this weekend to look at bikes for her.
She likes the wider CX style tires because they ride smoother and she took this out on a spin.
Norco Threshold A3.
Not the greatest component groups, but shes not competitive and likely wont ride it THAT much.

I dropped on today's ride, hard as ****. They tried to bring me back with 30 miles to go and I said, "I'm done, this is done. It's time for me to eat candy bars and bananas now, see you later." lol

Not a track bike, as it has gears and brakes. Track has neither. More like a Time Trial stage in a multi-day race.
Yes, pretty trick with steel tubes, that used to be all straight save the forks. Easy-Peasy now with carbon, as long as manufacturer is willing to buy the molds.
Hustler, you once asked, "Why Campy?" Note the C-Record group with Delta brakes. Actually, neither good designs, but pretty, and attempting to be innovative. To my knowledge, first Aero cable routing from the brake levers.
