Default I'm about ready to toss a grenade in the car...

I had another thread a couple weeks ago about the wastegate/overboosting problems I've been having. In removing the downpipe I had a couple nuts seized and sheared a stud in the turbine. Tried a broken bolt extractor which didn't work, drill started smoking, and then the bit broke. I've got the turbo off at this point. I've driven the car probably a total of one month out of the last three. So now my options are take it to a machine shop to get the stud out or see if Begi will take it back (though they never responded to my email about the fucked up wastegate port) and trade me for a turbo with a properly round port. Maybe even step down to a gt2560. Really I'm just sick of the problems. If everything had fit right from the beginning I could have enjoyed driving during the summer instead of dreading another weekend spent fixing problems. I almost want to just sell the ******* car because I'm so sick of this.

Seems like that's the way things go, especially around here, things go great for a while then all the **** hits the fan at once. Sucks to hear but it's all worth it when she's running right and you're behind the wheel...right?

On a side note, if you throw the grenade in make sure you have full coverage/a rider for the extra parts in the car/and get the hell away real quick

Call and talk to Corky. I am 95% sure he will address your issues and come up with a satisfactory solution.

PS. Switching to a gt2560 ISN'T stepping down.

I'll take the wheels if you decide to grenade it.

Either talk to begi or drop the parts off at a machine shop and tell em' to "fix it".

When it rains it pours. Everyone here has had a situation where **** just goes really bad. You just have to get through it. I just think of how much i actually enjoy driving the car every time I go through something like that.

It's already ported...... I'm going to call them today and see if they can help me out. I think I'll be switching to a 2560. Hopefully I'll be up and running again within 2 weeks.

This thread does not give me hope of keeping the internal gate on my new GT2871R... even if I port it.

This is probably a stupid question, but if the turbo suffers from overboosting and needs modification why didnt Garrett engineer a bigger wastegate port or design the turbo for external wastegates from the get go?

Or is this overboost issue just a problem on our cars?

I don't know. It could be just the combination of turbo, motor, and exhaust component design that is responsible. get jkav in here to answer why. he's the garrett engineer...
