How bout' running some small version of Linux off a thumb drive? I've booted my laptop from a 2 gig thumb drive before. \

You also may be able to install whatever browser you want by installing it via thumb drive, don't know how to do that though.

We can thank Mr. Assange for that.

I took the required training and my USB ports should be unlocked soon. Maybe.

I didn't think that applied to all gov computers, I wasn't sure if the OP was talken about working at the local DMV or at the CIA, so I fugured it was worth a shot. Guess it makes sence that they don't allow USB's though.

He actually works for a private company that contracts a lot of things for the Gov. Next time you are in an airport and see a poster for how TSA is supposed to fondle you, thank the Brain for that poster.

Ours allows USB, but only hard drives and they have to be scanned before first use. I used to use a SSH tunnel to my home router, but after a year of using it, they caught me. Using a dynamic port and making a change to the firefox configuration to send DNS through the proxy, I could access anything.

I plugged my phone charger into our computers once... they were able to track me down 5 seconds after plugging it in, and after 6 seconds my commander's phone rang, 8 seconds my supervisor would like to speak to me... thankfully, the WING commander let me off since it was a dead phone, and only a 5v USB chord, no data can transfer through it.

Edit: oh, and they locked my account until it had commander approval.

The trick is you (IE. the public) won't see the poster.

Wrong.

Having been onsite at a shitton of agencies, speaking with them about security policies and compliance blah blah I would say that everyone does their own thing. Some places allow it and some don't. Some monitor your keystrokes and some let you watch ****...
