The term sleeper is very loosely used.
What it means to most is the car looks like its modded, but not fast, so you WILL get people to race it thinking its a bolt on 15 second crapbox, then get blown out of the water because it turns out to have 4x the power that it looks to have.

Meh, to me a true sleeper simply looks stock.

Lets you fly below the radar, so cops don't give you a second glance and ricers don't rev at you.

A sleeper has to be a sedan: VR4 Galant, B5 S4, etc.

My buddy's BP turbo festiva is a perfect sleeper: looks like a shitbox on the outside. If you know what you're looking for you'll see the black painted fmic. Cops pay no attention to him and he gets away with insane driving and constantly messes with known fast cars and surprises the heck out of em. On my miata the last couple months of owning it I was getting crazy attention from the po po. It was ridiculous. If I'd be 5 over they'd be on my ***. My buddy is constantly hauling *** down every street and they don't even see him.

I dont know. To me that's pretty cool

Funny. I was constantly on the side of the road with a cop behind me with the WS6 and FRC, but with the miata, I've yet to be pulled over *knock on wood*

Its probably a midwest thing. Only old grandmas drive them here.

It started getting crazy attention when I painted it, put on the rims, 3" exhaust, and shiny new big fmic.

Before (on my 1st turbo setup) when it was on the crappy wheels, dull and fading paint, different colored bumper, small starion intercooler, and overall not attractive I NEVER got harrassed by the cops. Ever.

Damn, that's interesting as hell. I'm guessing its going to run e85 with that ungodly compression + boost. 3071 is probably used to get as much midrange and fast spool as possible since its a d0r1fto mobile. otherwise its way small for your typical built k hybrid.

I'm really interested to see what it will do. Sounds and looks hardcore though.

What's wrong with that one, then? Besides the overspending on needless AN hardware and such, it looks pretty clean. Is that an EG it's in?

How can a B5 S4 be a sleeper to those who know what it is or see the badges? Or a Galant VR4?

A sleeper is a car that nobody would suspet to be quick, let alone fast, and ends up destroying fast cars. Like a miata. Perfect sleeper. A few around here with LS swaps, and you wouldn't know until they rev on you. At that point, you're toast.

Anything sporty/fast from factory, meh, I don't see 'em as sleepers.

Agreed. that is likely a very quick car, fanboi or not. It's not a cheap swap either.

Yes, because every factory turbocharged sedan is a 10 second car.

These swaps are pretty much like our 1.6 guys swapping to 99+ BP powertrains:
You get:
More displacement
Better flow
variable valve timing
better transmission
Similar or same weight

Quoted for truth. I know my MS6 ran 10s. (maybe 0-100?)

First I will stay on topic. A friend of mine just moved back to Key West from Tennessee. While he was there, he and his friends (who have a shop) decided to build a hatch. K24/K20, 150 wet shot, built head/block, traction bars, gutted, 1800# rear springs (I **** when I heard that)

Easily one of the worst cars I have ever driven/ridden in. Steering is complete ****, incredibly, obnoxiously, horrendously loud and so ******* stiff it almost hurt. The car gets so much attention that he is constantly being pulled over and has to chase people away who want to steal **** out of it. But it is fast in a straight line from a 70 roll

Off topic. I <3 sleeper cars. The uglier, the better IMO.

My close friend's 318. 3.0 stroker, T4 Precision(no idea on the number), M3 cams, etc...600+whp. Looks completely bone stock.

Other close friend's E30. I've put a **** ton of hours into this car and it's a lot of fun. The motor was built by my friend who has the other E30 I just posted above. 2.7 M20 stroker, Holset HX40, MS2, etc.. The car looks exactly the same now as the pic below.

..........and we can't forget everyone's favorite imaginary sleeper

One of my best friends built his version of a sleeper a while back. Now it sits in his garage and collects dust, and is FOR SALE. It's a 1976 Ford Granada, white with tan vinyl top. Interior has a full roll cage, subframe connectors, and the original seats. I think it has a 31 spline 9" with 3:90 gears, a 6 speed from a dodge viper, and a 351 Cleveland that's pretty tough. I think it made 425 whp??? That was like 11 years ago though, and the car hasn't ran in probably 10 years. The last time I talked to him he said that he'd like to pull the drivetrain and stash it for a future project someday, and scrap the rest of the car. It's a shame to throw away the time and money invested in something like that, but he said it best. "It's a Granada...it's hideous and heavy, so I'm over it?"
