Don't your local Costco's carry Peets? I've tried both and it's night and day. I get my Peets at Costco

Schroedinger 08-29-2017 11:45 AM

I haven't tried the Peets beans... will definitely give them a try. I can't stand the Starbucks-style "charcoal" roast... tend to like light/medium roast.

I think you'll like it. Reason I love Peet's so much is because they're not burnt like starbucks trash, and not bitter like the Kirkland Columbian roast that I tried a while ago. They taste like......... real coffee :)

I really appreciate that all of their bags are stamped with "fresh roasted on........." date so you actually know how old it is. Anything a month or less old usually tastes excellent. Most other brands never even bother with the date, cause their stuff is super old.

My post you quoted is from 2015 :giggle:

I've own a hand crank burr grinder for a number of years now, and coffee production has since become a source of contention in my marriage.

Thanks MiataTurbo! :bigtu:

KitchenAid burr grinder is expensive, but the bomb. Ours it 15 years old, and will probably outlive me. KitchenAid grinder + Bunn A10 commercial brewer + Kirkland 100% Columbian beans (I'm being serious here) = perfect coffee. Also fun to try beans from local roasters, but we keep coming back to Kirkland.

The A10 is what I have as well.

I'm growing my own coffee right now. I hope it tastes good when I am finished. I've watched some videos on cleaning, drying, and roasting it yourself. Should be fun.

My name is Juan Valdez, and I make the richest coffee in the world.

Recommend me the nicest/best french press $40 and under, please. :)

18psi 08-29-2017 07:55 PM

get the aeropress and win like every single one of us in here

it's 30

concealer404 08-29-2017 07:59 PM

I've used them. Dad has one. Not my thing. Makes a great cup of coffee, but doesn't fit my routine lol.

I like a good old trusty French Press. It's my "thing."

Its basic bitch and works. Unlike a lot of other ones on Amazon, with the Bodum you can actually get replacement glass if you accidentally drop it. Don't let the "8 cup" in the description fool you, that must be a rounding error from some sort of fascist measuring standard because I get about 2.5 'Merica's out of this fairly constantly. Start with a coarser grind and don't let it sit for more than ~5min on the top end. THere are enough variables with one of these that you can really experiment and see what works for you. :likecat:

Yeah i've been doing a French Press every day for the last 2-3 years. My $7 IKEA press has seen better days, though. So i figured since i use it every day, i should get a nice one. Danke, sir.

Making progress. Coffee starting to ripen.

Schroedinger 09-06-2017 11:18 AM

^ I have that Bodum press above, use it when I go camping. It's pretty good for what it is.... I just hate using a french press. PITA.
