LOL. Getting even funnier.

Looks like Tom can't live with the fact that the mods locked the thread but instead of following his deletion prediction they didn't remove the proper explanation about Dynojets output which corrects his theory on engine dynos. Now looks like he started calling Dynojet marketing and continued hijacking/reviving other old threads (which are not locked yet):

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...2&page=4&pp=25

Instead of wasting time with some marketing monkey he could've read a lesson or two on why every car nowadays has a gearbox and what is that gearbox used for.

Does anyone know if Barnes and Noble carry FPRs for Dummies, Gearboxes for Dummies, etc.?

Come join the fun. IBTL

Ok, seriously. A while back, Moss Motors issued a press release touting a new timing controller that a few of us believed to be a piece of crap. We said so over on miata.net, which caused Jason (of Moss Motors) and Tom (of FFS) to jump in and start defending it (they are the only two who sell it.)

Jason quickly baked off, but Tom just kept raving and raving, talking utter nonsense. I tried to use the "If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck" analogy to make a point, and he went totally off the deep end. By the time the thread died, he tried to convince us that chickens and geese are ducks. Several people got good taglines out of that thread, and I adopted a duck motif for my avatar.

If you wanna read, it's a looooong thread which begins here: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread...highlight=duck Read it when you've got some time to kill and need a laugh.

Anyway, what made it relevant was an old post where an FFS customer was having massive fuel problems, Scott joked that the customer should just install another PowerCard (since that seems to be Tom's answer to everything, and that very quote is now Ben's signature) and then lo and behold, it turns out that Tom DID send the customer another powercard. You can see that thread here. http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=260159 (the fun begins around post 31)

how could someone think atomizing gasoline (one of the liquids with the worst latent heat efficiency) would be a good intercooler.

He's used that excuse before. And no, that's not the solution.

not a surprise though coming from a guy who sells $5000 blower kits that make 200whp when then planets align.

Remember, this is coming from a guy that sold $150 yo-yo's that probably knew **** all about cars to begin with.

There are 2 definitions of wheel torque.

Wheel Torque = torque measured at the crank, minus drivetrain losses

or

Wheel Torque = torque measured/calculated at the wheels

Tom is referring to the first, you are referring to the second. Stop acting like you've caught him out on some fundamental misunderstanding of dynamometers when all you've done is insult him repeatedly over a slight semantics issue. I hate the guy as much as anyone here, but make him look stupid over REAL things, not trumped-up ****.

Tom reminds me of your typical "con artist".

Pretends he knows everything about what he is trying to sell, yet knows nothing, but all he cares about is taking peoples money.

.....it's unfortunate that a few people were seriously taken by this con man.

That makes precious little sense. Wheel torque is torque at the wheels.

Everything else is how you measure it. Is there Fluke voltage and Digiman voltage?

If you calculate it, it's an approximation. It doesn't change what the definition of wheel torque is - it just changes if you're wrong about it or not.

Torque measured at the crank and torque "calculated" at the wheels are both guesses. Torque measured at the wheels is probably as good as you're going to get - though really you'd want to make sure your drum was made out of asphalt, and your tires were at normal running pressure, etc etc etc. :-)

I agree, though, that there's no point in abusing someone without a point (ever see mike moore and C. heston?)

The point is that actual wheel torque is actually extremely high, due to the fact that you're multiplying the RPM of the engine by the gear ratio and the rear end ratio to get the actual wheel torque. That's not what anyone refers to when they say wheel torque, though; when I say wheel torque, I mean what the engine is producing at the crank minus the drivetrain losses. My engine probably makes 230ft.lbs, assuming 15% driveline losses, which means 201tq, but the actual torque at the rear wheels is significantly higher than that, since I have to multiply it by 4.1 and then account for the tire diameter as well.
