When I had mine done, I used my patella for the new ACL. Week 2 pain hurt because I had to go to school on crutches, and I ripped out some stitches from my patella while I was sleeping because the leg extender thingy was set too high.

My knee is works fine now, I still play full-check hockey for my school. It still is numb in the front though, kind of annoying,

Nice to know that you are smiling after the surgery. My experience after an appendix surgery wasn't so pleasant (the first 2 days were horrible with pain that the meds wouldn't take away) and after I got out after 5 days, the incision would hurt like hell with even the slightest muscle movement (I did ban jokes for a few days at home).

 

 

Who remembers when I fell down the stairs at the TxMc event at MSR? Trey does, lol.

Day 2, the day after surgery... I didn't take any opiates the night before due to lack of pain. I woke up to a very stiff very sore knee, probably due to lack of motion. Now I took 2 x Norco (total of 10 mg Hydrocodone, equivalent to 2 Vicodins but with less tylenol in it). When it kicks in I'll start moving the knee a bit to get it to loosen up. When it starts wearing out and it's still sore I'll switch to the slow release Oxy.

Ben, I bought a used ice water pump ebay for $75 shipped. Insurance doesn't cover it. When I got it it only took me 10 minutes to clean the blood and pus off of it. I'm sure if I clean it again before re-selling it I can get my $75 back. They go for $150 new and a guy at work who got knee surgery didn't plan ahead and bought the sales talk from the surgery staff and paid $250.

 

Aaah, knee surgery. What a memory it brings up. When I was 19, I had a pretty big surgery in my right knee, rebuilding some stuff that broke when I lost a Judo match. Anyway, afterwards I had to use a huge brace that reached from my crotch to my foot to support the knee for 6weeks. Well, I also had a new GoKart... My very cool stepfather told my mom we where only going up to watch and hang out, then loaded up the Kart and drove to the track. I needed help to get in and out and of course to start the Kart, but man was I driving! High as a kite on painmeds, having a blast in my new machine. :-)

Nobody told me the day after surgery would be agony!
Yesterday lulled me into thinking this would be a cake walk.
It's getting worse and worse as the day progresses!
When is it gonna start being less painful?

 

Here's my ice water pump thingy. Can I use it for hot track days when I'm well?

It's the day after that hurts. Bike wreck or surgery. The day after is what always gets me

 

Goddam I was in agony from mid afternoon of day 2 through the night. Day 1 lulled me into complacency, thinking it would be a breeze. I woke up several times last night in agony and had to take more and more meds. I ended up taking a **** ton of the opiates and the ******* gave me a hangover. This morning is quite a bit better, but I'm now taking the slow release 10mg Oxy every 6 hours to keep the pain at an even keel. Interestingly I'm less dizzy from the slow release Oxy than from Vicodin/Norco... The "high" is not pleasant at all. Just dizzy and sleepy. I hope I don't have to go through withdrawal from this ****.

 

haha ya, never said it was gonna be easy. Just stay high, drink a beer here and there, and it will be all over before you know it.

 

Get quick releases for the hoses and yes, you can. Although you wouldn't have to if you just put it on your back, not attached to you in any way like cool shirts.

Oxycodone along with it's quick acting brother Oxycontin are very addictive, definitely use with discretion.

A little pain is less unpleasant than the diziness from the Oxy. I'm sure Rush Limbaugh would disagree

I must have zero addiction genes. Oh, and for me Oxy had less high for the amount of painkilling, than Hydrocodone (Vicodin, Norco).

That 18 hour period where I kept loading up more and more opiates from the pain - it was a good thing I insisted on getting Oxy from my doc. If I only had Hydrocodone, I'd have been in a real pickle. Even with the 2 x Oxy in my system I was pushing up against the max recommended dosage of acetaminophen (tylenol) which is mixed into the Hydrocodone, which the doc said I should take to augment the slow release Oxy for fast relief. I was dizzy and nauseous as hell though. Gotta love the wise selfless bureaucrats in gov't, they want that much Tylenol in the Vicodin/Norco to "discourage abuse".

If I didn't have the Oxy and I loaded up on just the Norco, I'd have hit the Tylenol limit and not have had enough painkilling, and probably ended up in the ER begging for morphine.

I can see how someone in my situation may have ended up inadvertently killing their liver from taking shitloads of Vicodin to try and control extreme pain.

I honestly think docs are letting themselves get too intimidated by the gov't, and doing a disservice to their patients, in being reluctant to prescribe Oxy for when Vicodin isn't enough. I think I'd have been better off using fast acting Oxy instead of Norco with Tylenol to control the "breakthrough" pain that got through the baseline slow Oxy.
