I also attempted to get on with a local PD, didn't work out in the end, but was still a great experience, along with the ridealongs I was doing with the county sheriff's department. I may go for it again when they start accepting applicants again.
I got past the oral board (lol), lie detector, and physical test. The chief ended up approving the 2 applicants that got an interview right before me, so no spot for me. :(
Anyway, just be yourself and respectful at the interview, hopefully you can think of good answers quickly because that is what they are looking for. And some of the questions they ask are pretty off the wall.

**** all the negative folk. Good luck with getting in to the academy. You will never believe how much fun it is out on the streets.
Chase dope, robbers and murderers. You'll love it.

And to all you jack *** cop haters. Here is another cop who has never written a speeding ticket or a car mod ticket.

You mean sit on the side of a highway and write speeding tickets? Thats sure keeping the streets REAL safe. Police department is nothing more than a money maker, nothing more, nothing less. They don't prevent crime, they make a poor attempt at "solving" and "reducing" crime. Very poor.

Kansas City Missouri budgeted for 66 new officers last year (2007) and hired 11 before their budget was depleted. This year they've actually cut their law enforcement budget even further, and they're raising their 'fines' to try and get more money to keep going. Not sure if anyone really knows the stats about this, but KC has one of the highest violet crime rates Per capita of pretty much any major city in the United States along with the worst roads I've ever seen. Along with their budget alterations parking rates have been raised because of the new "Sprint Center" worthless arena recently built along with hired more meter maids. Anyone ever seen that show "Parking Wars" on TV? That **** seriously happens. They'll sit and wait for the timer to expire, then immediately write it up.

I digress..

Part of the reason I mention their budget buttfuckins, I actually applied and had several interviews with KCMO PD last year. After talking to several people extensively in the department it became pretty clear I was another victim of 'affirmative action' and was denied a position because I wasn't a black woman. No ****, they literally told me that.

Submitted applications to the cities of Olathe, Overland Park, Lenexa, Kansas City Kansas, Leawood, and Johnson County Kansas Sheriffs office. Of all the police departments listed Kansas City Kansas was the only one interested in pursuing interviews but had no positions available, the others don't hire rookies only experienced officers. JoCo Sheriffs office was more concerned that I didn't have a degree in criminal justice.. Forget the fact that I had a perfect driving record, no criminal record, am pretty intelligent (most think, anyway), highly motivated, and was at the time highly interested in seeking a position in Criminal Justice. Took their placement test, scored in the top 98%, through the entire process to the board... Denied. No degree.

Thats pretty much the end of my desire to become a cop, not even sure what kind of nasty **** I was smoking to want that job anyway. Ive met my fair share of cops and I still personally think 90% of them are ******* tool bags. Visit a gas station I'll always try and hold the door open for someone behind me and 98% of the time get a thank you.. about 2 out of every 10 cops will actually thank me.

I have had my experiences, good and bad, with cops. The bad ones, mostly when I was younger, especially with off duty cops at raves, but i outgrew that ****(+ too many angry thugs throwing things) so I dont have to deal with them in that capacity anymore.

I find that honesty goes a long way with cops(Yes officer there is a bit of weed in the car, you can find it[insert location here]) I havent got out of any tickets, but probaby got out of some arrests and they ALWAYS gave me my weed back it helps to live in california

My good friend is applying to LAPD right now. He was going to go out for sheriff, but he found out that you have to work in jail for the first two years and said **** that ****.

good luck with the app

If I hold a door for someone and they say nothing, I stand there and look them right in their eyes and say "your welcome" with a smile on my face. And if there's a second door to go through, I don't hold it the second time.

With my own personal experience with police. They are always around for **** like speeding tickets, accident reports, loitering calls, etc etc. Just this past month when my neighborhood was raped by thieves and about 20 people had their cars broken into. I called the police department and the guy was talking to someone else while talking to me, as to say "yea yea I don't give a ****", and then he said "we are too busy to do anything right now". Give me a ******* break....lol

98% of cops are *****, not because they are cops....they would be a **** working any job. Just that these special breed of ***** feel uber important with a gun and a badge, that's all. I mean no disrespect nor am I narrow-minded enough to say all cops are dicks, cause they aren't. Take a person that is a little bit of an ******* and give him a gun, badge, and authority....what do you get?

My uncle has been a state trooper in PA for 20 some odd years. I have no idea what his day is like, but hes a genuinely good person, so I know hes not the "********" kind of cop.

elesjuan, maybe law enforcement should go away all together. Ask yourself this. Are you able to get in your car and go anywhere you want any time you want? You can thank the laws and the people who enforce the laws for that. I regeretably have been pulled over many times in my car, always my fault and not once was the cop ever a dick. If you show respect you will get respect.

Growing up my best friend's dad was a drug officer for OPPD. When I was about 17 his dog passed away and he gave up the drug job for a 3rd shift street position. One evening in their jail after James has booked someone one of his coworkers was having a real problem getting a drunken disorderly into a cell cause she was totally freaking out. She ended up slipping and busting her jaw on the bench and sued the city along with my best friends father, James. James was six weeks from retirement where he would have collected almost half a million dollars in retirement! She won the suit, claiming that James purposely slammed her down in the cell, and the other officer present wouldn't testify in James' behalf. At that point in time, it was the only jail left in JoCo that didn't have video surveillance inside the facility and since his fellow officers wouldn't back him, he lost the suit, the city lost the suit, and James lost his job along with his fattie retirement. James is now an over the road trucker.

Later on that year I was working on my car in auto shop class in highschool. It was a multi-period repair which was being performed on my vehicle over several days. When I returned on the second day I found the contents of my vehicle were missing. My entire stereo system along with all of my CDs. Later on that day I found someone who observed a kid use a slim jim on my car and jack all of my ****. Took the witness to the "campus police" jerkoffs who basically told me there was nothing they could do. They were too busy eating donuts and trying to catch skippers to care about like, crime?

Campus police were worthless, so I figured skip the rest of the bullshit and take my witness to the police. After several weeks went by nothing happened, still. My parents along with myself went for a visit to the chief of police at OPPD where we learned that the kid who stole my **** just happened to be the best friend of the OPPD police chiefs son. Did they do ANYTHING about it? Nope!! Eyewitness of him committing a felony (Grand theft...) and they don't do a motherfucking thing.

I was 19 years old and bought my first Jap sport motorcycle. Shortly after I bought it naturally the bike was stolen right out of my driveway. The guy who lived across the street from me saw the kid who took it, in the middle of the day. Identified it was this kid named Jeff, which I knew. Took that to the police, again, they did nothing.

2005 at SCCA auto-x I took my friends car (we were co-driving it) to QuikTrip and pickup a couple sodas cause it was hotter than ****. Pulling into the parking spot some ******* old man backed into the side of the car. Didn't even bother to look. Well this isn't my car, so I got his info then tried to call the police to fill out a report. I sat on my cell phone after dialing 9-1-1 for five minutes while it rang... and rang... and rang.. and rang. Never got an answer, never got a call back. You know, I could've been in some ditch half dead somewhere.. ******* pieces of ****. Went down to the police department to throw a fit and was told, "oh, well, they wouldn't' have come anyway since its private property." Well if you're not going to answer 911 calls, what ******* good are you!?!?

Thanksgiving 2006 same friend and I were in the same car at his works parking lot, private property. We wanted to cut some donuts for video, and wouldn't you know the god damn cops showed up. In a private EMPTY parking lot, where if someone slammed into my car and set it on fire they wouldn't even come to fill out a report.... wrote him a ticket for wreckless driving!!! ARE YOU ******* SERIOUS!?

Several perfect examples where the police were more than happy to not actually help me, but they're more than happy to sit on the side of a highway at night with their lights off and their ------ laser gun to make money. Sure you get rid of the police and the world would fall apart, but they sure don't ever seem to be very helpful when I need them. Thats why I'm a true believer in the second amendment. Sure not going to keep my fingers crossed in a pinch and just hope someone else can help me.

I'm pretty sure the biggest reason I wanted to be a cop was the simple thought that maybe I could try and make a difference.. You know, at least one cop on the street who would treat people with respect instead of being a total douchebag.. Not like it'd really do any good, anyway.

My advice to you is good luck. Don't really know you very well, but for the most part you seem like a pretty cool person on here. Just remember that, when you get your badge and hit the streets. Some people won't respect you just because you're a cop. Those people are ********, and prolly deserve whatever they get. Others will respect you only if you respect them, at the same time. Maybe I'm a little retarded, but I try and believe that what goes around... Comes around. In the end, they'll all get theirs. Know what I mean? Good luck!
