I have a beautiful Sheridan pellet rifle that would just love to partake in this exercise. But alas, I have no chipmunks to shoot. Pump action, turn-down bolt, iron sights, the works! Im like the sniper in the bell tower in Saving Private Ryan with this little honey. Come to think of it, theres really nothing here to shoot at in the pan-handle. Except the neighbours dogs that bark all night long. But Im sure they would instantly know who did that.

Vashthestampede 09-13-2011 11:47 AM

lol

When we moved in there was already this American flag here and its all tore up and weathered, but I didnt want to take it down. Well now I found a reason to replace it. I'm hanging this fucker on the front of the house to let these little bastards know this means war.

The huge tree right outside the window has been dropping nuts all morning and these guys have been feasting and fighting over them the whole time.

Little do they know that ammo and CO2 will be here tomorrow. I also found this site to print out some paper targets. I'm going to rig together a little frame to mount the targets about 25ft away. Until I get a nice rifle I figure I should practice with the pistol.

I may even rig up a video for this battle to come.

UrbanFuturistic 09-13-2011 11:55 AM

If you get a rifle, get a pump rifle. IMHO they are better. Also, because its just BBs and or pellets, just post the targets up on the fence in your back yard, provided you have a wooden fence. Thats what I do.

My father used to feed the squirrels at his house but now over the last few months they've started chewing through the little plastic water tubes in the pool heating array on his roof. He just bought a scope for the old pellet rifle...

Well it begins today.

Now I have plenty of ammo and C02 for the pistol. Although the sights are off quite a bit so its not going to be easy trying to nail them with this thing.

Last night after I was done painting I stopped down at the excavating shop and had a few beers with the guys, talking about this shit. My buddy went behind his tri axle and pulled out this old Sheridan pellet gun and handed it to me. He said to just bring it back after I kill them all. lol

I have a nice sale pending and if it goes through I'm going to get myself a good rifle with a scope. So far I've taken a few shots at these bastards already and no luck so far.

As I'm typing this right now all I hear is them peeping outside and rustling around in the leaves. Motherfuckers!!!! :vash:

Sight-in the pellet rifle. Kill the rodents.

UrbanFuturistic 09-15-2011 09:37 AM

Thats exactly the rifle I was talking about! Now youre playing with power.

How many fps is your rifle? Mine is 900fps .22 break barrel which I think is alot easier and quieter if you're stalking something. Animal wont hear you pumping away trying to build pressure for another shot if you miss.

I'm def sticking with the rifle man. Just have to get a little more used to it. :bigtu:

This thing is pretty bad ass. I've been pumping it about 8 or 9 times with every shot.

I've literally been at shooting at them since I posted earlier. I'm sitting at my desk with the window open just waiting for them and probably fired 20 shots from the rifle and 10 or so from the pistol.

The pistol is loud and they run off when I miss. When I miss with the rifle they look around and by the time I have it reloaded and pumped they take off.

Just now I was between shooting and looking through the binoculars and I heard one to the right of me. He was sitting on a rock at our fire pit. I took a shot and nailed him right off the rock, but he got up and started to fumble around and scurry away. I grabbed the pistol and ran outside for what I expected to be an epic "finish him" moment, but of course he was nowhere to be found.

Back to shooting!! lol

P.S. When the gf left this morning she was pissed off at me cause she knew what I'd be doing all day.

I dont know exactly how many FPS the rifle is. Ill look into it for you.

However, he is in the house and I would think that him pumping shouldnt be a problem.

Edit: Its 675 fps max. And says you should only pump to 8.

ThatGuy85 09-15-2011 10:01 AM

BB guns ftw. I used to have a scope attached to my old pellet/bb rifle. I could hit birds in the head from 20 yards away lol...

gospeed81 09-15-2011 10:20 AM

+1 on the Benjamin Sheridan pellet rifle.

I had one of the .22 cal ones that I grew up on. Deadly accurate, very few pumps, good range, excellent power.

Had to put down a rabid dog with it once. Completely up to the task. Shooting varmit is just a leg stretch for that thing.

Pumping is discreet, I just don't have much time. They stick around for 3-4 seconds after the first blast, not much time to pump/reload.

I wish I had a scope on this rifle. When I was a kid we used to go out into the neighboring woods (now GE capital) with backpacks full of food, repelling gear, guns, ammo and knives. Nothing more than killing of any animal we came across. I've actually felt bad about it since then, but this time is different. I'm not going after them for fun, I'm doing it because its necessary. lol

I just realized that the Sheridan takes .20cal pellets but I'm using the .177cal that the pistol uses. Looks like I need to pick up some more ammo.

UrbanFuturistic 09-15-2011 10:23 AM

For a dog Id have used the K. But then, I shoot the K in the back yard for shits and giggs.

gospeed81 09-15-2011 10:26 AM

Yeah, your pellets have to be the problem...because those sights are great.

Get the big bore pellets (the diablo "wadcutters" are great for game) and sight in properly. Profit.

EDIT:

Can you sell chipmunk-skin hats on eBay?

I'm going to throw them down at the snake pond for them to chew on. :bigtu:

Pretty sure I hit one but its under brush. Too much god damn cover!! I'm going out to check if it was a kill and rake some of the leaves away. They scurry around so fast that there's hardly any chances to take a shot. When they do finally stop its under bushes and shit so they blend right in.

break barrels are the stone cold nuts. no screwing with pumping and pumping. pump it once and unload like your typical friday night, vash. :-)

lol

It just started to rain here so looks like I'm done hunting for the day.

I was trooping the porch with the rifle in hand and the pistol tucked when I heard them on the side of the house. As I got closer I heard gnawing and clawing under the house by the AC unit (which randomly stopped working recently).

As I listened I knew I had to wait for him. There he is, broke dirt and his little hands are digging away from underneath the house. I put the rifle barrel right up to the hole and BOOM! His little purring noises slowly started to go away, but they were still faint. I untucked the pistol and fired all 8 shots point blank into the hole. The noise was gone.

Here's a few pictures of what I unearthed from the hole with a pair of pliers.

The hole before I touched it.

I threw that little fuck down at the snake pond right after I took the pictures. So that's 1 down and probably 49 to go. I chased a few down and shot at probably close to a dozen different ones, only injuring the one other one this morning.

Thankfully we have no neighbors close by. I can only imagine what I look like out there. I'm sure they hear me though cause the blasts are echoing through the woods after each shot. lol

Matt Cramer 09-15-2011 12:39 PM

Dunno how big the snakes in the snake pond are, but if they're big enough, grabbing a couple of them and turning them loose under the house might help out. :D

Not recommended if they happen to be cottonmouths or rattlesnakes, though.

devin mac 09-15-2011 12:45 PM

yeah, matt... we don't have much of that type of stuff up in this neck of the woods. maybe timber rattlers if you go looking for them. definitely no cottonmouths, though.
