Lets talk about that rifle:

That rifle should be shooting 5 shots in a dime at 25 yards if you are doing your part and have good ammo. At 10 yards, you should be able to shoot a ton of shots and just make a ragged hole. Make sure you are getting a consistent cheek weld and sight picture.

I prefer scopes, easier on my eyes.

What do your groupings look like now?

Sure it's a 20 not a 22? 22s are way more common. Pyramid Air has good deals on tins of ammo, buy 3 get 4th free. Stay away from Gamo ammo, I haven't found a single pellet gun that shoots it well and I have 4 tins of the crap. Highly recommend JSP Match Diablo and Crow Magnums. More expensive than crossman/daisy crap, but way better accuracy.

The next day its not raining here I'll hang up a new target paper and post my results. I feel that I'm getting better with each shot, although a scope would be nice.

Right now I'm using Diablo .20cal lead pellets for the rifle and a mix of Gamo .177cal ammo for the pistol. The pistol loses accuracy after 25-30ft with these pellets.

Well I just got little #8. Again, just like yesterday, I was watching one at the base of the woods when I saw one under my rear tire. He took off as I removed the screen from the window, but I continued to load the rifle in hopes that he'd return. I don't know if it was the same one or not, but there he was on the log pile. I got him with one shot thanks to the Sheridan.

If looking for a scope...I just put one of these on my .22 for squirrel season (starts Sat).

Zero'd out and shot pretty well out to 100yds.

Why do you leave the screen on your window? I keep see you talking about taking it off.

We're in the woods man! No screen means a house full of bugs (moths, mosquitoes, other crazy flying insects, etc).

They're the kind you place in the slide runners and can put in or take out quickly, just not quickly and quiet enough to not scare away the chipmunks.

You don't have a glass window you can keep closed to keep bugs out?

The windows are glass, I keep a screen in them while I'm home to get fresh air and when I hear the chipmunks outside I need to remove the screen to shoot them.

Cant you just set the screen in the window, not installed, and close the glass when you leave? Minimal bugs, but quick and quiet to remove.

The screens go in and out in about 2 seconds. They aren't full window screens like we have on the other windows. These are the expandable kind that slip into the window slide rails.

But they make noise that scares your prey...

Why don't you just sneak up behind them and cut their little throats?

Ive said it before. If I could get my hands on them I'd probably punch them into the ground until they were just a meat mass with fur.

Really though, today was a failed hunt. The rain has been on and off all day, heavy at times. I shot at them between the storms and missed all of them.

They've been hoarding nuts and going under the house and into the ac condenser unit.

One of them ran up the tree to get away from me. I watched to see where he went but he lost me. These fucking things are like mini ninjas.

Does anyone have a scoped rifle they'd be willing to part with for a month or so? I'd be happy to pay the shipping both ways of course and if I break it I buy it. Just throwing that out there.

I have one of these and they are great. At this price they are an absolute steal! Refurbed by crosman in the states, these tend to be in better shape than new (and if there are any issues crosman will make it right.

22 cal, nitro piston, thumbhole stock, comes with a scope. Add a Charlie Da Tuna trigger for $30, and be prepared to be impressed.

^ Looks like a goo deal. Just picked up this and I'm fairly happy with it. If I wasn't going to bootcamp in 4 months then I'd have spend more and gotten something nicer, like the gun above.

There's something awesome about those daisys! Fun plinkers, but I just love the more "adult" air rifles for their power.

The power is decent, I think it's like 725 fps. It's powerful enough to draw blood from a yard away with one pump, found that out the hard way.

*Not really. While it's very well-made, with excellent accuracy and power (1000 fps in .177), it's fairly loud and has noticeable recoil like most springers.

I love my Benjamin Sheridan. Real walnut stock, enough weight to give you some heft/stability, and the sights actually work. Pumping it is a bitch, but you only need one shot. They are accurate at 25 even with crap Daisy .17 cal. pellets.

+1 for leaving them out post-kill. Had a pigeon problem once at a house, leaving one out for a bit really helped.

Ethics are important, but quite frankly so is rational evaluation. Shooting chipmunks < raising animals in tiny cubes and feeding them grain and antibiotics. And WTF happens to chipmunks in nature? They get eaten. By birds that run large talons through thier bodies or peck them to death. By snakes that puncture them with fangs and inject neurotoxin into them. By freezing to death. By starving. (Neither of those last two at Vash's house aparently) by being shaken to death while being chewed on by coyotes. By being bit through the neck by cats.

Pain is not nothing, but lets get real here. Frankly if I had a choice of being an elk that takes a .270 winchester through the lungs and heart, or a cow that lives in a pen and then gets run to a slaughter hourse, I'll be the elk.

If you can trap, do that. Non-lethals can work great, I love them. You can go to work and come back with your work done for you. But if not, shoot'em.

And tell the owner to get the damn house setup right.

If that was directed at my petco comment earlier, granted they arent the best enviroments for the animals, I worked with what I was given.

I feel I should also mention I lived/worked on an organic farm for a little over a year and was the animal guy there as well. Coop full of free range chickens, 2 pigs and a boar, 2 llamas and a heard of sheep. I usually helped out with the 12+ horses too, although not my responsiblity. Ohh and right before I left I became the farm beekeeper as well.

Just pointing out that even though petco isnt my best credientials animal wise, I have other experiance under my belt.

On another note, I got #9 this morning. No kill shot picture though. The gf was hope and not happy about it, so I was doubtful she'd tolerate a kill shot picture. lol

I also spent about 4 hours this morning clearing brush, weeds, vines and all other types of cover theyve been using around the house. Not only does the place look better, but now I have a better chance at getting a clear shot at them. :bigtu:
