yes it's been a while since we have a good m.net thread. This one is about not going to gas stations who try to sell products other than gas.

This is how you get static discharges that can cause an explosion at the gas pump. Note that it's a myth that cell phones case these explosions - it's usually getting back into the car (particularly if it has cloth seats) and not grounding yourself before you touch the nozzle. If you ground yourself you will probably be ok, but it's better to avoid getting back into the car at all.

******* ------, everyone knows that **** wont "explode", it could possibly cause a fire yes- but only if you are THAT much of a flamer.

so you think a spark from static electricity is some different form of spark than in your spark plugs i guess? maybe weaker, but it's also not compressed air/fuel either.

I can't believe there's even people like that in the world. They must be the snobbiest mother ******* ever. Its not like your spending the day at the pump, or filling up a 50gal tank. Its a miata, by the time you know it your fueled up and ready to go.

I doubt many of these guys go out to social functions like bars, parties, **** even restaurants can be loud sometimes! I'm sorry, but if you need gas and see TVs so you look for another....I hope you run out of gas and have to walk miles. Then maybe your tight *** might stop at the TV gas station next time!

Gasoline in liquid form isnt very explosive, but gasoline vapor is. FYI

Correct. Fill a cup with gas and throw a lit cigarette in it.....the gas puts out the cigarette.....nothing more.

Stopped to get fuel on the way home this evening. Turbo was hot (have a pyrometer on the a pillar), and I didn't feel like waiting for it. So with the car idling, I opened the fuel lid, got out of the car and proceeded to pump fuel. While the pump was doing its thing, I went back in the car and opened the hood release, got out of the car and propped the hood open. Sometimes I feel sorry for the FRP hood, so I wanted to expose its underside to ambient air. Got back in the car, closed the door, and dialed my voicemail on my cell phone. The pump's auto shut off engaged, so I opened the door (while listening to the message) and got out. I had to return the call, so I hung up on voicemail and dialed the phone, while my right hand was on the nozzle, pulling the trigger a couple times to get those precious last ounces packed into the miata's tank. Then I put the filler cap back on, closed the fuel door, got back in the car and drove off without applying proper safety restraints. The boost gauge, also mounted on the a pillar, shot to 10psi before I made it to the gas station's exit.

And I didn't blow up.
Or did I?

PS, there were no TVs at this gas station. Perhaps that's the difference

I have no doubt the fuel will ignite and start on fire because of a static charge given the right conditions. But and EXPLOSION? **** no.

it's all about vapor. if it's a hot day and the fuel is vaporizing easily, you could theoretically get an explosion but you dont really see it happen now do you.
