Default a little pissed off!

And here's why:

I traded my 20002 honda civic SI for my now very nice 2000 miata ls. When I trade cars it was with the understanding that both cars had clean titles. I did this trade in January of this year, the day after I got it home I went and put it in my name so the trade was final. When I got the new title for the car for the state of ohio it had a clean title. Today I get home from working out check the mail and find a letter from the ohio dmv I figured it was just for my plate renewal since my birthday is in june. I open the letter and find a new title and a letter saying "Dear mr.--- were sorry for the mix up and sorry to inform you of our recent findings for your vehicle title your vehicle is now registered with a salvaged title."

As anyone else would be my for thought was WTF! I call the guy he's informs me the vehicle was purchased from california and had a clean title when he got it. I then call the state of illinois records person and request information on my vehicles vin number... they come back with that vehicle has a clean title??? Ok so again WTF!!!

I am at a loss guys? Anyone ever incounter this?

Go down there and argue that they make it right. Did you carfax it? If it has no accidents or any bs then having them fix their "mix up" shouldn't be too hard imo

I think states can set their own requirements and stuff. Maybe you can arrange for some authority to inspect it. Good luck with everything.

I thought that the insurance company usually made the call as to salvage a title or not. But, if it wasn't salvaged before it was fixed it shouldn't matter later.

I was a body man for 4 years, not an insurance adjuster. My understanding is that if the damage exceeds a certain percentage of the value of the vehicle it is deemed salvage. So if it wasn't salvaged before it shouldn't be now.But safety standards in other states may effect that as well. Carfax would give you a better idea of the vehicles history, or at least so points of argument.
