Did they add that horrid pinstripe? It wasn't in the first pictures you posted. WHYYYYYYYYYYYY!!?!??!

If you want to get rid of it and it's not just peeling off, these are really awesome for removing pinstripes:
You just put it in a drill and it basically wipes the stripe off. Then you can easily rise/wax off the residue it leaves.

Things got weird in the later years, and VLad's info is correct. Here's an excerpt from the 2004 dealer brochure:

For the LS, a red car was only available with a black interior, and the silver and cherry mica cars were available with either black or tan.

Yeah, that's new. Gonna come off soon.

I don't know what a wet-okole cover looks like, so I don't know. They're made of a nylon-ish material woven in a coarse mesh which is sort of like a fishnet material. I haven't yet looked under them, but they're gonna come off pretty soon.

congrats, joe. thanks for bring balance back to our force.

Wait....I still can't get over the fact that Joe is getting married and planning to buy a house.

This is the same Joe Perez?

The Joe Perez that heats his apartment with bath water, drinks cheap whiskey, rides e-bikes in the snow, and nerds it up over virtual reality?

He's getting married...to a real women?

I need photographic evidence...

18psi 08-06-2014 11:03 AM

He already posted pics of the wifey. She's pretty hot

TurboTim 08-06-2014 11:05 AM

Yeah some big assed Rican from his childhood. Probably his kindergarden teacher.

Is this in some paying members only section? Apparently I'm out of the loop

Pics have been randomly put in threads when he has been talking about other things.

pdexta 08-06-2014 11:33 AM

I think he posted a picture in the random pictures thread. You've got some work to do if you want to find it, haha.

18psi 08-06-2014 11:52 AM

google "miataturbo spatula" or something

Monk 08-06-2014 12:08 PM

Found. Good job Joe.
[QUOTE=Joe Perez;1147549]Honestly, the system isn't unsafe or scary at all. It's much cleaner than is typically portrayed in those old pictures and films, graffiti is practically nonexistant, and while there is a faint but persistent aroma of urine throughout most of the system, the fragrance of the rat poison tends to compliment it nicely.

Related to prior conversation:

Last weekend, the missus and I were out at a mall in the 'burbs. There was an entire kiosk selling nothing but novelty spatulas:

I welcome specific recommendations for undercoating / rustproofing, incidentally.

POR-15 is terrific stuff if directions are adhered to.

For prevention, snatch up a can of Fluid Film and apply liberally. It's what many snowplow drivers use to keep their equipment from rusting apart.

Just don't get it on your hands unless you want to look like a vagrant for a few days.

Joe Perez 08-06-2014 02:22 PM

Honestly, I'm not even sure where I'd put POR-15 at the moment. My understanding is that it's supposed to go over rust (or prepared bare metal) and I have neither of these things.

This Fluid-Film product seems appealing. Also this: 3M Rust Fighter-I 08892

In the core support rails, you might want to use this as a preventative. They are accessible through the numerous holes in the engine bay and the can has a tube + nozzle to get into all the areas. Don't know if it's based on the 3M product or not (but might be easier to get).

Eastwood Internal Frame Coating

dieselmiata 08-06-2014 03:21 PM

That's the stuff I used on my 95. The Fluid Film is great for the external surfaces, but it's difficult to spray into cavities. On the outside it's a breeze. I just slather it on with a large paint brush.

Good advice.

Drove the car up to my upstate apartment last night and left it there. Took the exceedingly scenic route under the cover of darkness, owing to lack of license plates. Top down, heater on, life = good.

I'd forgotten how much more cramped and uncomfortable the interior of an NB is as compared to an NA. Hard seats, less legroom, less left-foot room, cupholder right where your right elbow wants to be when in the laid-back-and-cruising position... (anybody wanna trade my '04 center console for your '99-'00 unit?) I'm gonna need to dremel about 1cm of metal off the left side of the clutch pedal so that I can get my size 14 Timberlands past it to the dead-pedal.

Detail of the extremely crappy seat covers:

Coverking Spacer Mesh Custom-Fit Seat Covers

Haven't had a chance to remove them yet, but I did pull back part of the drivers' bottom cover, and the leather underneath, while worn, isn't yet cracked or torn. So these are going away first thing Saturday.

Gratuitous sunrise shots (first time I've actually seen the car in daylight):

The right front fender has obviously taken a hit, but I did an extremely thorough under-hood inspection and I see no damage / wrinkles / etc to the underlying chassis. All of the seams and gaps are straight except for that little area between fender and bumper behind the right side headlight, and I can live with that.

And yeah, they drilled through the front bumper to mount the license plate. Retards...

Also, found the dealer brochure which confirms this as a base-model car with the Azure Blue Leather package, as that option list describes this car 100%:

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...1&d=1407424962

Kiss it goodbye, as it's getting converted to black cloth interior and black cloth top.

If you actually wanna trade center consoles I'll pull mine out the garage tonight and make sure it's in good condition. I would be happy to pay shipping both ways as payment.

I do actually want to trade center consoles, assuming yours is black and in reasonably good condition (7/10).
