Honestly me and my dad poked around them for a while, and he just told me to ignore it. There is literally nothing wrong with them, its just a stupid design or assembly. I've been driving with them that way for years, and my brakes are rock solid.

I guess if you're really bored one day you can rip into em.

As for the intake, I bet you can find a billion CR r-tards that will gladly trade you for a stock one + a 6 pack of your favorite beer.

you still looking for a battery bracket? I need to check my garage, but I should have one from a 2001.

No, I found out that the PO was nice enough to hide the bracket behind the spare tire after installing the wrong-sized battery in the car. Now I just need to figure out the size of the bolt that holds it down:

(I feel so damned helpless- I have no garage, and I left both my tap set and my box-o-random-bolts behind in CA.)

In a perfect world, I'd also like to find an OEM jack handle and the T-bolt that secures the jack:

And this one screw:

And an OEM shift knob.

Had a hell of a great weekend, though. Went out exploring the back-roads of upstate NYS with the missus, who after complaining that I drive too slowly when I'm in her car, proceeded to complain that I was "driving like a racecar" in mine (eg: carrying too much speed through turns, heel-toe shifting and cornering under power, etc.) Got myself a nice sunburn, and we wound up at a really beautiful state park. Car commercial stuff.

I'll take a look see what is left in my brother's wrecked car. I have an OEM shift knob, but the leather "handle" part rotates on the threaded insert. you would need to glue it. I will snap a pic of it tonight.

Joe: I also have an OEM Jack with handle as well as an original unused donut spare. You should really drive by and just collect all my old parts. AFM? check.

Anyone have a battery bracket for a 96 while we're on the subject?

How about any of the other OEM battery parts for a 96...?

Thank you, sir. I feel so impotent without a dial caliper, a tap set, a thread gauge, a box-o-bolts, or any other means of rapidly identifying fasteners... Took me 15 years to build up the old bolt box, and about a minute to kiss it goodbye.

The shift knob is a little beat up, let me know if you are interested in any of it.

Just look at the part numbers of the bolts?

Interesting- I'd never noticed that before.

Awesome. Lemme know how much you want for the lot, shipping to 12590.

Question- if the leather handle rotates on the threaded part, how the hell did you manage to unscrew it?

Dishrag and vice grips. I have a piece of leather I use as a softjaw in my garage. I may have actually used that instead of the dishrag, it was a while ago, and it did not fight me at all coming off.

I'll send you a pm tonight about it.

Were you able to do this without damaging the knob? I've been putting off replacing my torn shift boot because of this. lol

xturner 08-12-2014 08:30 PM

Joe - I just found the knob off my NA. Very fine '89-vintage vinyl. In very good shape, but not nearly as nice as my $6 1981 Kal Kustom walnut ball. Also not nearly as nice as leather, no matter how ratty. I would much rather use Dave's. Yours if you want it.

Since you foolishly offered, can you get a report on VIN # 1GCGK29U51Z199098. 2001 Chevy 2500HD, if it matters. A for-reals truck I can afford.

Thanks

I'd honestly much rather have that than a leather-wrapped NB knob. The rubber-ish knob on my '90 and '92 cars was just fine. You take Dave's, I'll take yours.

Cleanest report I've ever seen. One owner, zero hits. Full report attached.

xturner 08-12-2014 08:47 PM

PM me an address. I'll mail/UPS it.

xturner 08-12-2014 08:53 PM

Oh, and thanks for the report. I've been looking for something like this for over a year - it even comes with a current state safety inspection sticker. Going to look at it Sat.
