can you swap the 99+ dash into a first gen? Also, how does the rx7 clutch lsd compare in "feel" to the torsen. I ask because im going to be swapping the brakes and rear end from my 97 onto my 90 and may consider an upgrade to rx7 diff down the road. I guess it will probably come down to what my style of driving is eh?

clutch-type lsds lock under any torque. as you torque the rear, the clutch plates lock up. so thats means in a straight line (drag, road racing) you can benefit from the wheels being locked pretty much all the time.

Torsen, is torque sensing, it pretty is open most of the time and only locks 2/3rds into a corner as the torque build up into the one tire. great for autoxing so you dont power into corners and junk. Plus if one wheel loses contact with the ground then it becomes like an open again, as there has to be contact with both tires for the gears to work.

both have advantages and disadvantages.

If this is happening you've got other troubles to worry about.

or your leaving a steep driveway with your 0 sag suspension...

it ******* sucks. the first time I ever regretted having a torsen... some random dudes just walked up and offered to help push me back into the driveway, and I got stuck a 2nd time. but this time the tire was just barely touching the ground so I did a burn out... then pushed it back in, and powered out, smashing my exhaust on the ground. it sucked.

I wish I had the clutch type then.

that's why smart people invented the pre-loaded torque sensing diffs.

LOL,ive got a f1 gripforce clutch.ive been running 5lbs breaking it in.going to turn it up to 15 and get it tuned.and find rx7 rear.

THE GOOD.the clutch looks pretty strong.has a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty.comes with a new pilot and through out bearing and tool.and it rated at 300tq.it feels pretty solid.

THE BAD.its 150 shipped and it scares me.a honda kid had a ebay clutch that shreded to nothing, but it wasnt a gripforce and had no warranty.

solomiata.com has that info... keep in mind that although this swap would give you better traction, it won't give you a much stronger diff (still the same ring gear). The T2 diff swap is what you want for uber power apps.

Any 7" diff. from a 2nd-gen RX-7 should work, from '86-'91. '86-'88 are the one's commonly used because they use the "superior" clutch-type LSD, while the '89-'91 cars use a viscous LSD.

Master Yater, you were right about the vendors on Car-Part.com, first two deals fell through so far. I waited for a week from the first place and gave them a call, and they were like "oh those!? they weren't usuable." but I guess they forgot to tell me. Looks I found a wrecker in Southern VA that can do $115 shipped for the two.
