I just watched it again (first time in many years) and noticed something surprising. The sound designed succumbed to the stereotypical problem one deals with when dubbing engine sounds on a long chase sequence with sustained high speeds. Namely, transmissions shifting all the way up into fourteenth gear.
In addition to some of the great stuff already mentioned, I saw part of a movie, back when I was a teenager (mid 80's), that I thought was pretty frikkin sweet. It was the first time I saw heel toe down shifting, and it is what started my intrest in the "physics" of driving.
My memory is sketchy, perhaps someone here has seen it and can fill in the gaps. The movie is set in Los Angeles and a young undercover cop is trying to get in with some high end car thieves. In the scene I'm thinking of he's driving a 911 (I think) down a twisty narrow residential street, in and out of cars, heel toeing as he goes, I remember trying to understand what he was doing. I vaguely remember a hot blonde being there too
We'll that's all I got, anyone have any idea what the hell I'm talking about?

The Starsky and Hutch effect. I'd bet lunch money that the cars used in filming had automatic transmissions.
Interesting... I had no idea! A teacher introduced me to that video in an automotive technology class and I guess he didn't know that it was a Mercedes.. Wikipedia had the specifics about the film and the car... Just read up on it lol
Le Mans and I haven't noticed anyone else mention Grand Prix!!!
Those IMO have the best noises and racing of any car movie, hands down. Those are the only two Blu Rays I own.

I'm gonna stand up for Saml01 and say that I actually watched Initial D, and while it is a Jap drifto movie, it is still pretty decent. I like it the way I like the F&F movies; I don't respect it, but for some reason it is entertaining.
Especially because a lot of the sub titles on my version were very poorly translated. They used some funny *** word instead of suspension and it took me till almost the end of the movie to figure it out.

In fact, we may have to nuke his ISP from orbit.
Love the beast: Targa Tasmania in a Ford Falcon, but much more then that.
And while not strictly a car movie, if you have any petrol running through your vains, you need to see TT3D. A movie following the underdog Guy Martin through to the Isle of Man TT.
