Not knowing how long you've really been around here, let me offer up the wisdom that MT tends, by design, to be a fairly rough-n-tumble atmosphere. This forum, to an extent, was founded as something of splinter group against the tyranny (and overmoderation) of a certain other miata-specific forum. As a result, while Hustler is in fact not our official spokesperson, we tend to not merely tolerate but actually enjoy his rantings, as they remind us of our proud (and exceedingly juvenile) heritage.

The comments that have been made thus far with regard to gazelle-eating do posess a certain air of truth about them. Think of MT as something of a fraternal organization- it is vitally important to us that only those possessed of a certain agreeable disposition are permitted to remain. By surviving the gauntlet, and fighting fire with fire (so to speak) one demonstrates a certain level of intellectual complexity that we find most palatable to be around. Or put another way, it weeds out the whiners. To paraphrase Ian Faith, we prefer to be more selective in our appeal.

What's the alternative? I'm being totally serious here. If we're too warm-and-friendly, then we attract the wine & cheese crowd and the forum loses credibility as a haven for serious DIY power enthusiasts. If we censor everything that someone objects to, then we become a hangout for thin-skinned pussies and whiners. It's a tough balance, and, speaking only for myself, I'm always open to constructive observations on how we're doing. Just don't think you can change what MT is "about".

miata-turbo.net in being so lax with its moderation seems to allow people to attack people often without cause.
I'm afraid you've got that backwards. By and large, the moderators at this forum tend to be somewhat homicidally irrational when the mood strikes. But this anger is rarely unleashed without cause.

that all said and since i was not received well on this forum in regard to my good will I don't imagine I will be back any time soon
Then farewell, poor soul. May your dreams be haunted by the screams of a thousand angry penguins.

However good or bad the MS web board and its members might be they've got a horses ass for a moderator. As an example someone there goes against the company line and posts:

"If someone put a gun to my head and made me choose between mazda-speed.com (censorship) and miataturbo.net (Darwinism), I'd choose MT, hands-down."

He's telling it like it is, has presented a useful insight, and isn't bashing anyone. The horses ass moderator responds:

"Let me know anytime you want your membership here shut off, I'll be glad to help."

Which is basically saying, if you don't agree with us fuck off. My experience is that generates a chilling effect on useful debate and the best and smartest posters leave, mostly without fanfare or fair well.

But it doesn't end there. The poster, sticking to his principals calls him on it and writes:

"I'll do it right now and never come back ... if you promise not to delete or edit the post. Deal?"

And proving once and for all he's got no balls, the horses ass replys:

"Doesn't work that way, this isn't Miataturbo.trashmouths"

There is a place for moderating, but ending debate on a technical forum isn't one of them.

I would like a link to said thread where the msm faq's by mprhead5 got flamed! I wanna see if he is right or just overly sensitive. As we all know things were getting a little over the top for a few months. We all had our weinies slapped and it will be a better board for it. Not PC and uptight but toned down just a touch.

Koto, Y8's, Msyndor, Lateralspeed, etc! Group hug!

cueball1 10-03-2008 12:20 PM

Ok. Thread found and it's been cleaned up. Nice job. Maybe mprhead5 will visit again. Maybe he has some knowledge that would be helpful around here. MSM's aren't much different than our cars they just had a head start. Pretty much the same parts work the same way and they definetly need modification to make any real power.

To take liberty with a MarkP quote. The answer as always is MSM's need more boost!

The thread is still there, but it has been pruned. Frankly, there was too much BS and poo-flinging going on. I'm all for natural selection, but unfortunately this was one of those cases where people just started acting like retards for not obviously justifiable reason. If you want to see where it's at now, the thread is right here in the BS section. In fairness, the OPs decision to put it here probably didn't help his cause.

We all had our weinies slapped
True, but that was just good clean fun between consenting adults. :giggle:

edit: the following is directed not at cueball, but at everyone.

To be honest, everyone needs to take a real close look at what Ben posted back in #4 of this thread. Step back, think about it. Because he's dead on the money here. Jumping over to other forums and starting shit gives us all a bad name, but so does a lot of the juvenile BS that goes on internally. If someone is being an utter retard, then by all means, feel free to point this out to them, preferably in a witty and intelligent way. Haverty, for instance, deserved what he got.

However, just because someone is being a retard to you is no excuse to start being a retard yourself. Consider how your own actions reflect upon the reputation of the forum as a whole. I don't care what any of you think personally about clubroadster, or mazdaspeed, or M.net, or circlejerk.org for that matter. We're the ones who are supposed to be posting links to other forums saying "Look at this retard" and having a good laugh at their expense. When we give those folks a legitimate excuse to do the same to us, it really pisses me off.

We're all reasonably intelligent creatures here, and when I see otherwise reasonable people reduce themselves to a nine year old vocabulary and mentality, it makes me want to start banning people. I've been going easy on this shit recently because I was trying not to be too much of a totalitarian asshole and conform to the whole "the moderators have a god-complex" stereotype. That ends now.

There are a few things with the MSM that doesn't makes the transition, but not many. The EMU for some reason hates MSM's but seem to work fine on non-MSM's. I came to this site initially to figure out how to make the thing work. Every one on the MSM site told me it wouldn't work. It made no sense to me why it would't. I never really got it working properly even with a crap load of help from Joe Perez (thanks).

Why was my thread deleted...? Trying to be nice and people were getting agitated... wtf?

Relax, take a breath and don't worry about it. Your intentions were good I'm sure, but some people will be dicks just for the sake of it. Which is galactically stupid considering what the mods have been saying.

Deep breath ..... now GTFO! :)

LateralSpeed 10-03-2008 02:30 PM

Alright, whatever i'm done. Just keep reaffirming why I made that thread in the first place. I've tried to be nice and help kiss and make up but it just seems like some people don't want to.

If you didn't love the sound of your own voice so much, we might not jack with you so bad.

There are no difficulties here man. If people stop looking for fights, then they won't find them.

If necessary, we can lock down this thread to stop the fighting. Sure would be shameful though, and would represent a failure of our members to be civil and our staff to set a good example. Let's not allow this to happen, mkay?

Ben 10-03-2008 02:53 PM

Also, I want to point out that the vast majority of our senior members and all of our staff have remained extremely civil and polite with both the M-S situation and with new members. Hazing and bashing seems to be more of newb on newb violence than anything else. The moderators will be forced to censor more often, more directly, and more harshly if this problem does not self correct.

y8s 10-03-2008 02:59 PM

newb on newb action just doesn't get me hot.

:noob:

None of us take offense to you man, but some of these crackhead newbs don't understand you're joking and try to follow.

TonyV 10-03-2008 10:35 PM

You know I can completely see Joe, Ben's, etc.. POV about trying to take things down a notch and things getting out of hand...

Just please o please let's not start censoring and whatnot... Attacks without cause and all the other junk I can agree need to be toned...but the WAY opinions/ideas are exressed here is what initially drove and kept me here...It's MT's personality...

There has to be some level of if you dont like it gtfu...

PS--I'm prob one of the guilty of showing some 9yr old behavior recently, but its not my usual MO

I've met VagaXT. He is basically a big FM fanboi. If he installed a single part on his car, I'd be stunned. The entire turbo/motor was installed at FM by FM. There is nothing to look up to.
