most mediocre gauges (autometer) read 1-2 psi off at rest.
Defi cheats by making everything point straight down... so technically mine reads 30inHg of vac at rest

Most mechanical vac/boost gauges should read zero when the engine is off or the gauge is disconnected.
Electronic gauges cannot be counted upon to read any specific value when de-energized. Some will return to the lowest point on the scale, some will just jump to a random value, some will remain wherever they were when power was cut...
