Cool. If you have any questions about the MS, I think Foundsoul is on the the board right now...

or for a tenth of the cost, build your own. if you can read and have a sodering iron, its really easy to do. i still dont see the alure of MSPNP. MS was all about performance on the cheap, with the MSPNP, its starting to get away from that IMO

really they're all fine units. get the cheapest one that satisfies your tuning requirements.

I've never seen any list or discussion on exactly what AEM, Hydra, or even MoTec does which MS does not.

I think it all depends on what you intend to do, and the final cost after adding in the accessories. I went with a Hydra, but I am sure the AEM and MS are great units.

i just want to get around 250 hp and be able to pass the tailpipe test for now as I don't have the time to build an engine. In the future I may want to build the engine but I'm not going to factor that in now because it wouldn't happen anytime soon. I'm still debating on the turbo; t3s60, 2560, or disco potato. I'm leaning towards getting the Begi-S kit with an upgraded turbo and downpipe even though it'll cost me more than doing a totally DIY build as I can do things in stages and spend money over time.

this is my point. Why? Why did you go with AEM over MS? What does AEM do wich MS does not?

the only difference I see there is vvt control and sequential injection.

Why would sequential be desirable? Less fuel consumption?

One thing to consider, do the MS and AEM include a knock sensor and WB integrated into the PnP harness? I dunno, throwing that out as something to look for.

I use the stock knock sensor with my MS using the knocksense. All i do is tap the knocksense into my patch harness and then hook the KS up to MS. Works great.
So that's not something to worry about. It's a $60 feature.

I should get into MS2-extra. Start running sequential injection and ignition with cops. It would be basically the same as the hydra then. Specially if you used MS2-extra hi-res(if they have a hi-res extra already).

This couldn't be better timed. Good thread. I remember old information from a year or two ago, and it seemed the MS just ran out of cycles to do more than one or two things (i.e. knock sensing, sequential injection, etc). It sounds like the high res and extra add some of these abilities back in.

I should explain: I really like to tinker. If I wanted buckets of cheap horsepower, I could put in a bigger motor. I don't want to be strongly held back by my choice in computers power-wise, but I woudlnt' mind if I'm making 5% less power for a MS.

I can tell you, on a whim, someday I'll want to have my headlights blink based on EGT's or turn on water injection from a pressure switch in the valve cover or something utterly ridiculous (or maybe just use the staged injectors I've already got on my car).... It seems silly to have lots of seperate systems when one computer with all the inputs should be able to do whatever. So, my question is, will any of these (AEM, Hydra, MS____) let me customize things, use additional ins and outs as I see fit?

Also, how is support for staged injectors? Moving from a Link Piggyback, I have 8 injectors, and it would be cool to be able to use those, it leaves things flexable for later.

Thanks everyone and sorry for bugging you about basics, I'm just hoping you all have some good insights for me.

Anyone have any suggestions on where to find out about the AEM? That one in the classifides is really tempting, but I have no idea what it does. One thing is for sure: The AEM page is useless, it's so thick with marketing-speak the thing could be a popcorn machine and I wouldn't be able to tell. They keep blowing themselves instead of telling me what it does and how.

I DO like sequential and staged injection.... No analog IOs?

And what can you do with the GPIO board on the MS? As soon as I find a system I think I can really play with, I'm jumping.

No analog outputs, anyway. The MS does have a number of PWM outputs however, and one could in theory use one of those for most analog output requirements.

Any analog ins?

Only two channels and if there's not a few spare ins the AEM is starting to look good (extra injector channels, mainly) - but I don't see why I can't bank fire all 4 injectors on one channel, and the other 4 for staged? Guess there's little point in that over just getting 550's and being done with it.
