Default Need Tire Help (For Lotus Elise)

So basically,

I went through Yokohama Advan A048's in approx. 3k miles. Which sucks. They aren't cheap.

Need some advice on tires to replace them.

Stock tire sizes are a must & obviously I want a sporty tire, just not A048 soft..(Ideally a tire that can last at least 10k-20k miles)
195/50-16
225/45-17

I know this isnt a lotus forum, but I don't feel like joining a lotus forum. So it will have to do.

I just don't know which tire. Tire rack gives you like 3 options for tires.

Kumho Ecsta ASX, Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M, and General Exclaim UHP.

215/45R-16 86W BLK $120.00
225/50R-16 92W BLK $129.00

17"
205/40R-17 84W XL B $122.00
215/40R-17 87W XL B $132.00
225/45R-17 94W XL B $135.00
235/40R-17 90W BLK $142.00

How is tread wear on the Azenis's?

Going up from a 195 to a 205 on the front, big difference?

It sucks but if you're baller enough for the lotus, it doesn't matter.

Psh never! And I didn't buy. I'm just in charge of taking care of it. And tires is definately proving to be a hassle.

And it looks like I can get the Toyo T1R for about 500$ shipped in stock sizes.

If you'll not footing the bill, go with RA1's. Or why are you complaining about only 3K miles?

If you really care about getting the miles out of them, BFG G-force sport work well for a economy/fun balance. But be warned, putting those on a lotus makes you 10% gayer.

For that kind of epic car, I think Azenis or Hankook RS2 are the only appropriate tires short of the advans you just smoked away.

For performance > Azenis and treadlife > A048, Bridgestone RE-01R. Front = 205/45-16, rear = 225/45-17 or 235/40-17.

Though I must concur with all who have noted that putting anything less than the A048, R888, etc onto an Elise, well, it just ain't right. Might as well just cripple the poor little thing.

So you work for a Lotus dealership and you take it to local events and give people ridealongs. It should not be very hard to convince your GM that the car needs the best handling tire you can buy even if it last only 2-3K. The tires are the biggest improvement in hanling, take that away from the Elise, and have fun trying to convince people to buy them.
Just a though.

Not really ha.

Its my dads car. I drove it while my old cars glass aisin was being fixed. Now I owe him tires. Its his daily now that his other car is being sold, so r compound is out. Colorful assumption though!

Well, only reason I assumed that is because I know a few guys that work for Mini and Lotus dealers, and that's part of their job. Take these cars to local events, like Auto-x and give people rides to get them interested in it, it helps sales cause most of the older ayto-x'ers have money and old beat up cars, but when they see that new cars can be faster than their old trusted steeds, they come forth and spring up some dough and show up at the next event in a Mini/Lotus or whatever.
Smart move, and it's not the dealer backing this, it's the manufacturer.

In this case, buy some wheel/tire combo from Tire rack or Edge ot whoever has a special for daily driving and tell dad to save up for some R-comps for events...all problems solved.

ps-and if you tore those tires up in 3K street driving, I know you had to have some fun.
