Default Neighbor brought home a G8 GXP

And I got to bang gears for a while (It's the 6 speed). First off, I didn't want to abuse first and burn through his tires. Car has a 3.7X rear so first is really short. The car makes great power, but it's very linear and you certainly don't feel like you're moving until you look down after 7 seconds and you're going 90. The car has everywhere, which is nice, and it's weird to be chugging along in 5th on the highway at like 1500 rpm. I'll be looking forward to this as hopefully I'll get my friggin conversion turned over and running this month. Waiting on a new battery and fuel pump now.

People bitch all the time about GM interiors. I found nothing wrong at all with the interior. The gauges were easy to read and not to busy. Nothing felt "cheap" except maybe the huge glove box, but we Miata owners know about shitty glove boxes.

The car is very sure on the road and has a good driving suspension (like BMW) for getting the 4K lbs around without it seeming like the car weighs that much.

The shifter is a very crisp shifting 6 speed. Not notchy or disappointing at all coming from the Miata. Probably closer to driving the Miata 6 speed vs the 5 as far as shifting goes.

Maybe Penske will pick up the G8 GXP and put a Saturn badge on it?

And we give a flying f.uck because?? It's a Gneric pile-o-crap...this kind of information does not belong here.....

jk I really dig these cars and would like to take one for a spin myself. I'm sure the Aussie-ness of the car has something to do with the better fit and finish over regular GM products. Sucks they started making such a cool car only for the company to fall apart. Maybe they will carry it on under the GM brand? Oh I was just watching Motorweek and they were driving the Firehawk version...pretty damn nice... but $56k was a bit out of whack...good job GM.

I too love the G8 GXP, especially for the money. The GT is a great trim level as well, considering the only mild price upgrade over the base V6 model. Thanks for the review.

I still wish we had the wagon. I'm a cheap bastard, but I'd be hard pressed to resist this car:

Nice.

Now is the GM bankruptcy gonna produce some bargains for us?

Don't those start at like upper 30's low 40's? I'd like one, but I'm not going to even pretend to be able to afford one right now. One of the only GM cars I'd buy right now, the other also being a Pontiac, a GTO. Sucks they got rid of them though. One of the only GM products I liked.

They need some wider tires in the back. I big v8 that puts down 400hp should not have the same tires front & back.

Price was around $40k. There weren't bargains to be had with the GXP as there were a very limited number made. He bought like 3 days before the bankruptcy though. I coulda got him a better deal probably.

Only problem with the GT is they don't get the 6 speed.

...and you still have to get out of the vehicle if you want to raise/lower the top.

...and get out the chop saw. Folding the roof up might be a bit tricky if you want to take it with you.

The back of that wagon looks exactly like the Malibu Max from a couple of years ago.

Gaak! - I was channelling a conversation I had earlier this week with the new owner of a Soltice GXP.

I'll go back to sleep now...
