new project - 10Hz gps data acqusition with accelerometer
based around this gps, this controller, and +/- 5G 3-axis accelerometer.
had this controller and accelerometer laying around for a while now. never did anything but i think its time to play with it! entire project will be documented with pictures and ill include all source code that ill be writing to make it work.
i didnt want to bother with logging onto sd card as i have laptop in my daily driver and carpc in my race car all the time and ill do logging right onto them. plus it will allow me to see output in real time and it would be very difficult to find a controller with enough juice to parse 10Hz worth of GPS data AND accelerometer data at the same time.
will post pics of gps when it arrives.
if i ever have enough time, ill also integrate data from my aem standalone into this so ill be able to keep track of stats like rpm, throttle position, etc; although i could figure out approximate throttle position through acceleration data from accelerometer

for those who dont know what the hell im talking about, im basically building something similar to Traqmate Basic but cheaper and open-source with endless possibilities for integration

which gps did you use? i have a 5hz bluetooth gps laying around but i could never get refresh rate to go get below once per second. this gps that im going to use will update 10 times per second which should be MORE then enough.
im aiming to have a very expandable solution with ability to hook up external display, sensors, etc to it without too much trouble. for extra $50-60 it can be made completely standalone (and log to SD card) and can actually control some **** in your car as an added benefit.
with that being said, standalone version can be built for about $300 using same components as im using but it can also be replicated using cheaper components with less functionality and would cost about $200-225. i just didnt want to bother designing custom pcb around some microcontroller so i just went with something that is proven to work and easy to implement/develop for.
