Not just another "Daily Driver Quest" thread (HAHA YES IT IS) [Volvo Experts Needed]

And yes, i got 41mpg over 1000 miles on the way down to the GRM $2012 Challenge. Been daily driving this thing for 4.5 years now, purchased for $900, still under GRM $2013 budget. Parts are DIRT cheap, available, and the cars are cake to work on.
Beware: The power you can make for peanuts will completely ruin you on BPs for life, save for the whole FWD thing.
If you really just want a hatch, consider the 1st gen Probe GT instead. They're uglier, slightly heavier, but are the same car otherwise. Swap in a set of MX6 seats (i have a spare pair, come and get them) and roll.
As a bonus, the Probes aren't terribly hard to find.
Also: Stanza wagonback thing?
Also awesome cars. I had one years ago, very reliable, good MPG, comfy, and easy to make into a snorting troll mobile.
OP, if you have $2000, you're looking for a car. Not a specific kind of car. You're looking for the best car you can possibly find for the $2000. You can't be picky.
Cars normally known as being reliable are going to be total pieces of this at this price point, and cars known as being shitty aren't going to be any worse.

I'll be honest- I'd gladly take a couple of days off and drive this car down to you in exchange for airfare, hotel and gas money. I could use a break about now. and it's been a while since I've driven a car...

I find some in NM and Louisiana but I have a problem with driving to another state to buy a 1K car.

Anyone have experience with the 1st gen CR-V's? It's just barely on my list, but there's one locally that's pretty clean so I'm considering it. Mileage is just good enough. How are they for daily driving? I figure they're fairly boring, but then I've been daily driving a Nissan Frontier so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
