That's my friend on rope, but I'm holding the camera. That is Stephens Gap, an open air pit and natural bridge in NE Alabama, Jackson County. One of the most beautiful places I've ever experienced, not just visually either. It's a good pit for non experienced people, since you can walk in and out of the pit via a side shaft that is wide open and pretty easy to climb with shattered rock pieces to scale. I'm wanting to say it's 164' from where we were rigged up, but it may be a little less, can't recall right off hand.

And while on the subject (I can never miss an opportunity to talk about one of my favorite pastime), our next stop, hopefully in the next week or two. My friend is pretty hard to get encouraged up to actually go. I'm willing and ready to go at a moments notice. This is Neversink Pit, also in Jackson County AL. 162' depth, and if you catch it a few days after a good rain, the waterfalls pour in from all sides and shower you in mist at the bottom. Another amazing place.
