And i'm perfectly okay with the fact I am a social liberal. I think gays should be able to marry and abortions should be legal.
She doesn't scare anyone, they're laughing a little bit. Her degree and school is what makes it so funny to me. Frankly the democratic ticket will eat them alive intellectually. A BA in communications and mayor of a **** bird town and a 20 month gubernator of a small state?
I want to point out, in the least Obama is a massively intelligent man. BA from Columbia and law degree from Harvard? In debates, he has a huge advantage just from pure education.

I love how you think just because he has an Ivy league education that he is better for the job. Yup, your only good enough if you hang with the elite. I dont give a crap where he/she went to school. Tell me about the things they have done and the things they have experienced.

There is a reason that the earning potential of a Harvard graduate is so high. Its easily the best institution in the states for Law. I would kill to be able to go there.
A Journalism/Communication degree and travel experience of "1 time in Germany and 1 time in Kuwait" counts for nothing. I'm sorry I want someone with a notion of a sphere beyond Wasilla, AK.

Ideally i'm hoping that the GOP overestimated the power of the "rural vote". For the most part it's shown that the power of the vote tends currently lies in middle class suburbs. Ideally they won't be sway by this rural VP.
I want to point out, I liked McCain before he picked Palin.

Like I said. Your only good enough if you hang with the elite. Having an education and being smart are two different things. He may be a very educated person but he still thinks that adjusting your tire pressure and getting a tune up will fix our oil crisis (because all the experts say so). You still havent told me why he's qualified for the job and dont tell me its because he graduated from Harvard. FYI, im not sold on the McCain/Palin ticket either.

I am willing to take a hit on my own political ideals to help improve the image of America.

naarleven, I don't like Obama for his policies. His education is a plus for me, but not a big one. Graduating from Harvard/Yale does not equate to being a good POTUS (even though I'm no Bush hater/lover). Being a genius does not equate to being a good leader, but it helps.
If you are a single issue voter, I can see why Palin would not appeal/very apealing to Pro-Lifers/Choicers. I'm not happy about that facet. Luckily, I don't think Roe v Wade will be overturned in my lifetime (fingers crossed), no matter who the President is. If you get down to it, I don't think Supremes should be grilled about personal beliefs or party affiliation (Justice and Constitutional enforcement should be blind). End of Rant.
I am happy that Palin is shaking up the media and the Dems. LoL@ the attention her prego daughter and the DB father is getting. He's riding the gravy train all the way to the VP mansion.

Because as a figurehead, he would do so much for national image its crazy. I travel; A LOT, and I'm sick of putting a Canadian flag on my backpack when I go around to avoid crime. People hate America. Think we're backwater, podunk rednecks who like to kill people.

People do hate America, should we love the hate out of them? World peace isn't loving everybody, it's being in business with them. Tariffs and backing out of Free Trade Agreements (which Dems advocate) is counter productive to that.

Your big signature is saying otherwise.

There's ignorant in every country. Obama (the 2nd coming) won't change that.

Tolerance is the best way to become friends with anyone. I can appreciate Jimmy Carters visit and recognition of Hezbollah. Political idealism in international relations is just so much more logical to me.

naarleven I have to say first of all that I really agree with everything you're saying but I don't think you or I or y8s or anyone is going to convince anyone (car guys even less) to change their political beliefs over an internet forum. Facts don't help because most people don't base their opinions on facts, and even if they do they are often (as evidenced in this thread) extremely biased in favor of the view they wish to justify to themselves and everyone else.

You should re-examine your definition of small states. After all where did Bill Clinton come out of... that little **** hole Arkansas. Not exactly the most populous state and he seemed to have enough experience.
Really, in the end it's not about intellectual prowess, it's about votes... and that's where that "hockey mom" is gonna kick the dems ***. The dems are in a full scale panic and for good reason... for them to win, Sarah Palin must be destroyed.

Are you suggesting that I am not smart because I want to little Podunk UTSA (University of Texas - San Antonio) a commuter school that admits 96% of it's applicants?
Yet, I graduated summa *** laude and highest honors, and I am now in a very prestigious Ph.D. program, I go to school with graduates of Harvard, Cornell, and other "top" schools. So what does where I got my B.A. have to do with me being smart?
Finally, I know plenty of VERY smart people, many of whom I wouldn't let lead me out of a paper bag, much less run a country. John McCain is a lot of things that you might not like but you can't question his ability to lead by example, and no, he might not be as smart as Obama... but he doesn't have to be. Otherwise we'd just have an IQ test and put the person with the highest score in office.

McCain didnt flip flop his view on that until recently. Just because I think drilling for our own oil will help with this oil crisis dosent make me a supporter.

Sure I can, there are a lot of people that supposedly know him that claim he is an unscupulous person and all about himself. A lot of them point to how he treated his first wife and how he hooked up with the current one to enhance his status and career. Being a POW does not mean you are a shinning example. It means you got caught. There are plenty of others that got caught and survived. The experience didn't make them all great examples of leadership. If they were unscrupulous asses before they got caught they still were when they came home. I ran a few scary missions in my 23 years in, last one being Iraqi Freedom, I was there for the start, me and all my people came back unscaved. Are we hero's? Why do you have to get captured, shot, shot down, or **** up to be a war hero? Jessica Lynch was dubbed a war hero, I was over there when it happened, they fucked up. I only mention this because I get tired of hearing how McCain is such a great candidate because he was in a POW camp.

Oh, and this shpill about executive experience, if that's a criteria neither McCain, Biden, or Obama has any. I watched both conventions. After last night I came to a realization. Both parties are full of ****. The Dems distort facts and spew retoric, last night the republicans did the exact same thing. half the **** both say are outright BS. And what really irritates me is people on both sides regurgitate that **** over and over on message boards and in conversation. I think we should just start over. let the country send in nominations for who they want to be president, Colin Powell would probably top the list, and call it done.
