Why? Where in church do you get sworn at if you decide not to go? This isn't the "church" of scientology we are talking about here, noone is going to beat you with a bat if you decide you don't want any part of the RCC anymore. The kid looks like he is about 14. What do you expect if the mom didn't take him to church every sunday? Kid will grow up to be an atheist, maybe some day he will see the mistake he made and correct it. No amount of swearing or lack of christmas gifts is going to change that. He might say he is a catholic sometime soon again after his mom continues her reaction, but it is not like he will actually mean it, which is what matters.
