by the way, if some of you still remember, i was doing a digital gauge like that for megasquirt but that didnt go anywhere really. i might consider starting on that project again if i can find a funding source to support it. my gauge cluster was supposed to be under $400 and would show all the **** megasquirt can offer + gps and accelerometer for basic track datalogging and speedo.

I have to admit, as much as I hated all those homos KITTing out their Firebirds back in the late 80s, this guy does have some awesomeness.I think it's the full intragration with the vehicle systems that does it for me.

Trivia: anybody remember the first-gen Buick Reatta? +2 if you drove one.

Landish and over the top if you ask me.

Oh, looks like a Crestron interface to me. I used to do those. I'll get some pictures when I can...

No 'Verts in the first gen ('88-'89), you missed the good one. Besides, consider the context here.

I think Brainey is onto it.

Actually, I don't think it was a talker. Chrysler was big on those, but I don't recall Buick doing one, at least not the '88-'89 Reatta. It was more special than that. So Brainey -1.

Bueller? Bueller?

I know there was a special option on the Conquests that wouldn't stop talking. I think they called it the "technology package" or something.

We have a winner.

Reattae from '88-'89 were equipped with a small monochrome CRT touchscreen in the dash that managed all HVAC and radio functions. In addition to having small icons and lacking tactile feedback (meaning you had to stare intently at the screen to hit a button accurately while moving) the system was prone to failing in such a way that all controlled systems were locked in their last known state. So if the thing crapped out while you had the radio tuned to a hard rock station and cranked up loud with the A/C set to full blast, well, poor ole' dad was gonna be listening to AC/DC and freezing has ***** off for the next two weeks while the dealer ordered a replacement part from the one warehouse which had them, on the moon.

It actually wasn't a bad looking car- a little 2 seater (Buick's first and only) with relatively sporty curves. Sadly, the engine and chassis failed to deliver what the styling promised.
