I agree, but America was founded on, and puts out there that we accept everyone, and everyone is welcome. In reality, I find America much like a southern Baptist church. Everyone is welcome, but when someone who isn't like everyone else shows up, people start whispering and pointing. A smile to your face and a knife in your back.
It was fairly apparent that I was not born in the US, I have non-US name, and I never pretended to be from the US.
I did, however, live my life just like any other American.
There was never even a hint of discrimination.

No one ever put a knife in my back during the 20 years I lived in the US.

Mods love flexing their authoritarian muscle over this thread. So long as people are posting pictures, what does it matter what topics are being discussed in the margins. What is this, North Korea? You guys need to lighten up. Go have a drink, calm yourselves. All will be okay.

Here is a picture of a goat:
This goat feels very strongly that, regardless of high-minded idealism and maxims inscribed on French statues, no society can ever achieve a state of true peace whose borders are open to all.

So, I don't normally re-post videos from C-SPAN, but this one I just love. I've been a fan of Cliff Stoll for a couple of decades now, but (rather oddly, in retrospect) I don't believe I've ever actually heard his voice or seen him speak- I've only read his books, articles, etc.
Turns out, the guy is even nuttier than I envisioned:

I've heard a couple of explanations, including insurance requires it and/or there is so much insurance fraud that people feel much more compelled to run them.
There's a collection of pedestrian-specific videos that seemed to show a lot of attempted insurance fraud and/or suicides where people basically step in the path of moving vehicles.
I know that happens to some degree in the USA, but how shitty must your prospects for life be when that seems like the most viable way to make some money?
