Well seeing we've been on the subject of Subaru's lately.....

Ok, so my ex currently drives a 2000 Nissan Altima. I drove it last week and told her it was absolutely the worst car I have EVER driven in my life. The steering was by far the worse part, amongst 100 other things.

So anyways, she just got a new job....a really good one, but its about 1 hour each way, mostly highway. She wants something new and girly. I told her she should think about having a 4wd or awd....seeing we are in the NE and shes a girl....lol.

She likes Subaru's and I went with her to test drive a legacy, and today she went and test drove one again. I'm pretty sure that's what she wants. She told me she was looking at the turbo ones and was thinking about it.

I know she wants an automatic without any question.....she does not want to learn to drive stick, we tried that long ago.

I pulled this up on Subaru's site and made my own conclusions.

Looks like the basic difference is;

-$21k to $28k
-170 to 240 hp
-20/27 mpg to 18/24

I would say the 2.5GT Limited is her best bet. For an extra $7k, that's 70hp, and a small drop in mpg performance. And you get a leather interior, and all around a couple better options.

What do you guys think? Anyone have a legacy? Anything else you'd recommend?

I think you're putting way too much effort into finding a car for your ex.

In all seriousness- a few months ago I was doing a job in Columbus, OH, and my rental car was a Legacy. Handling, power, transmission, comfort, all were totally average. However the AWD system and traction control made a true believer out of me. Driving to the hotel from the airport (at about 11pm) the freeway was basically a sheet of ice. Cars were spun out and buried in the embankments everywhere. And granted- you so much as looked at the brake pedal and things got real squirrelly in a hurry. But I really had to work hard to make the car lose traction with the throttle. It's not merely that it was underpowered (which it was) but it just seemed to grip rather well under power.

 

lol.....I should have just said friend. We are still good friends and talk daily. Just trying to help her out!

I work at suby and drive all different ones all the time. Without the turbo the automatic feels scary slow getting on the freeway. now the leggy GT, those are fast. I would venture as far to say that a Spec b probably all but keeps up with an STI impreza.

The LGT is a nice car, and if I had the money I'd hop in one too.

Besides the driver seat feeling like I'm sitting on a brick wall, I don't mind the steering/suspension of my 2000 altima. Granted I replaced the shocks and added a rear sway bar, but it suffices for a daily driver. Hell I used to beat a lot of drivers in the STS class with it on street tires.

So far the only maintenance I've ever had to do in 130K (I bought it at 63 miles) was replace a failed idler pulley and the clutch.

But guess what it's going to be replaced with one of these days....a Legacy GT

 

a) willing to do that for your ex means you still want her

b) she's into subarus means she's into the vagina

c) which one can she really afford? how about a babied previous gen WRX.

 

my friend had a legacy spec-b and it was awesome, felt so nice in turns (when it got lowered), the multiple boost settings that you can adjust on the fly is awesome.

 

Thats not used price? Why not find a 6 month old one for like 4-5k cheaper.

LGTs are amazingly fun cars.

 

I would suggest she gets what appeals to her. What you like and you rational means very little to "most" women when buying a car. Get the one that she thinks is "cute"

 

I showed her all the info I found on the legacy and what my thoughts on it were today. They seem like great cars for the price! Only thing I don't like about them is the plastic wood on the inside.

We went on cars.com and found a bunch of used ones that are really awesome deals. I was thinking about maybe looking into one now, rather than fixing my envoy.

She can afford the b-spec, sti, whatever really.....I just know shes not "that" into cars. I have a feeling she will either get the legacy, or get nothing. And when I was showing her the aftermarket variety of stuff for them, she didn't even want to hear it. lol...too bad
