I had a similar thought. Not sure if it is still there but Catch on Market near Castro is one of the best restaurants ever. Expect to pay $100 per plate without drinks though. Tons of great food around here. Pancho Villas on 16th near Valencia is one bomb taqueria, not too far from the Castro, much cheaper.

If you do try to park be sure to bring a couple rolls of quarters. The meter maids are on fire around here and you only get like 1 or 2 minutes per quarter.
