we've had a couple show up at work, funny little things, 3 lug bolts, engine is under the rear cargo cover, just lift it out and there is this tiny little engine.

All the politically correct businesses around here are buying the Smarts. Prius is just plain pretentious and dull (like southpark say's, they emit a lot of smug) the smarts are a novelty to put your business name on. They get a lot of attention. Now if only I could get one of those bike motor versions for my store....

Well, you think the Miata is much safer than the Smart?

Have a look at this:

And now good luck to all of us, not to roll...

P.S.: A friend of mine owns such a smart roadster coupe. Its a really light weight an fun to drive car. It has just 82 bhp but because of its lightness it drive quite nice around town and on nice curvy roads (not that much fun on the German motorway though). The engine is a 800 ccm (~49 cubic-inch) turbocharged 3-cylinder with quite a nice sound.

Well, i rather drive my Miata but the smart is also quite a lot of fun...

We've had the smart cars up here for a few years now. Seen quite a few that people seem to be using for daily commuters. I've seen a few on longer highway runs though.

A few weeks ago though, there was an article series in the paper (the wheels section), where one of the writers took it across the country.

OMG sign me up. Those Hayabusa powered Smart cars look like they are a blast. There is another video on youtube where a hayabusa smart car beats a ferrarri in the 1/4 mile pulling a 13.29.

LoL Yates that pic reminds me of that fairy tale with the 3 three bears and the girl who ate their porage!
This one's too small, That one's too big, This one is just right!

On topic.. I've never seen a smart car in person before o.O
Although I did see that video of the smart car beating the Ferrari, I'd rather drive something that sounds like a Ferrari than a tinny little motorcycle engine. (No offense cyclists)

A serious comment... they actually do quite well in crash-test ratings.

Of course they're not going to protect you like a Hummer, but I can guarantee you that they're a lot safer than a NA Miata. I wonder what 15years worth of safety technology is worth over my '93. I've resigned myself to the fact that anything worse than a fender bender is probably sending me to the hospitol for awhile. The airbag hasn't been operable for at least 10years.

There's quite a lot of them in the Seattle area, I usually see at least one a week.
