Default Saw a smart car the other day

So I was at my friends wedding the other day and a guy pulled up in a Smart car. I thought our Miata's were small. They are actually neat little cars with lots of cool features (like stability control, paddle shifters, traction control) but I think they would suck on the highway. The one I saw was an imported one with the 90HP turbo engine. They weigh 1600+ lbs. From what I read the new ones on sale in The U.S. in 08' only have the 70HP motor. Even at 1600 lbs it probably still couldnt get out of its own way. Any thoughts? By the way the guy that owned the one I saw had a Miata and sold it to get the Smart Car. He said it cost him $26,000 at the Mercedes dealership. I looked it up and the 08' models are selling for $12,000 ($14,000 for the sport version with the paddles shifters). So yeah you can buy 2 2008 models for what he paid for 1. Here is a link to the car:

Not the same but yesterday two guys on segways were going down the sidewalk in Tok, Alaska. The tires looked like an outdoor/offroad version, alot beefier than what i've seen before.

I wasn't sure whether the video was claiming it was safe or not...but I wouldn't want to drive one.

italy seems to like them. they're everywhere. and they have cars that make the smart look roomy.

the smart four-two ... some sort of targa sports car thingy.

well thats cause europe A) doesnt travel the distance we do and B) realize that if everyone drives reasonably sized cars, its alot safer, cheaper C) more expensive gas

Most C and A though

I've driven the roadster and the for-two. The roadster is a sweet little car, fun to drive. The for-two was.... odd. It was OK in the city but on the highway it was very jumpy. Wind would push it around worse than my old VW beetle. It would do 85 mph without too much trouble but it was scary unstable.

Personally I would own a roadster and love the **** out of it.... the for-two I would own purely for the fuel economy and would probably regret the purchase every minute I wasn't filling the tank.

It's ok in Italy because you're chances of hitting another small car are good, in the U.S. you're likely to get in an accident with an 8000lb Canyonero that is the standard commuting vehicle our country has chosen.
