I keep finding myself researching interesting microsquirt projects lately and it got me wondering if anyone here had played around with putting a megasquirt on something outside of the miata world. I've read a lot of comments about "I know a guy that megasquirted his.... lawnmower, gokart, jetski, etc, etc." but not a whole lot of people that had actually done it.
The more I look into it, the more I'm convincing myself that putting EFI on something that has no business with EFI is going to be a big undertaking, especially without some serious fabrication skills at hand. Then any small fuel injected motor + sensors + harness I can come up with is going to cost more than I can justify (or reasonably explain to the wife). I guess that kind of shoots down the dream, but maybe there's a way to build a basic intake manifold that would work and source some cheap injectors and fuel pump that I haven't thought of.
Any megasquirt information, comments, insight, theories, "I know a guy" stories, or future dream plans welcome in this thread. Just thought it could make for some interesting conversation.
I plan on megasquirting this:
Factory 134ci FLATHEAD 4 cylinder. Would it be possible with a points distributor? I'm not thinking throttle body, I'm thinking multi port, in fact, an old Miata harness and injectors.

Megasquirt can work with a points distributor.
Ideally, you'd lock out the advance mechanism inside the distributor so that its timing is fixed, at which point it acts like a two-spoke crankwheel.
Without a second point of reference, you'd be forced to run full batch injection (all injectors fire at the same time.) A one-tooth crankwheel, or any N-1 crankwheel, would get you up to two-channel injection, like a 90-93 Miata. The latter would eliminate the need for using the distributor points (and, thus, modifying the distributor) and could function on its own.
Just join the megasquirt face book group, people post oddball projects all the time. Ive seen snow mobiles, dirt bikes, tractors, small model engines, 4 stroke, 2 stroke. etc.
I am building a small single cylinder engine that I would like to MS1, if I find one for pennies. If not its getting a carb.
@EO2K mentioned a GM throttle body setup that bolts onto a carb flange. And comes with everything needed. I probably will do this on my truck. megasquirt fuel only, with a standard ignition system.
I don't care much about power and things, just better driveability. So a stock ignition system is fine for my needs. I would just like more control over warmup and things.
You got dibs, my wife doesn't need it, she has a super nice data logger that is basically an MS2.
And no, I have worked in 4 different microbiology labs, but this is my office, my wife is the scientist. I get to play with dogs all day.
Not to mention the nice background, at least when everything isn't on fire.
