Default Smog before or after turbo?

I need to smog my 1.6l 90...but Begi finally shipped my S2...should be here Tuesday. Assuming that its complete, should I attempt to smog it before or after the install....BTW, She has 160,000 miles on her.

What ecu will you be using? Stock or ms or something else?

What does your smog test consist of? 2 speed idle? Dyno (15 + 25 mph)?

My 1990 with greddy kit wouldn't pass on the stock ecu so I threw in the MS and tuned it to pass. Stock ecu measured HC at idle was 187 with allowed 120. After MS it was at 43, and that's with a FM cat that's well over 2 years old.

If you have an other than stock ecu and access to use a 5 gas analyzer, sit on that and tune it to pass.

you passed smog on megasquirt ... thats cool to hear. I swapped back to stock to pass my test because i figured the air-fuel ratio and timing would be too touchy to get good results.

oh, i see that you have access to a gas analyzer too. Thats not something that any average joe has.

Stock ecu for now. Wanted to get passed this smog before I go to MS.

I have no idea what they are going to do for the smog. All my previous cars were pre 1965 with the exception of a subaru. But that was when just about everyone passed no matter what.

Anyone want to pm me with a place that may be lenient on smogging in the Bay area???
I am pretty sure i am going to need it.
Motor rebuild is budgeted for dec. But I need to be smogged before June.

Oh, you are in the bay area.... you are going to have to do the enhanced testing where they put you on a dyno and test at 15mph and 25mph.

I'd say unless you have access to a gas analyzer, just do it before the turbo kit. If you are completely stock and fail it is most likely your cat, as long as you haven't touched timing or fuel or anything.

Hmmm, If the cat is stock, and I can change back the timing to 10*, Should I go ahead and order a new high speed super dilly deluxe 2.5 inch or if I can find it 3 inch cat to put on...It could only help when the turbo goes on...
